HELLO! A BIT ABOUT ME Having had the opportunity to play in a few PBP games on this site, I've decided to repay the kindness and try my own hand in it. While this will be my first time in the GM's chair on Beyond, I've been gaming for...um...let's just say "quite a long time." I'm a regular GM on Roll20, running a number of games and even some lengthy campaigns. I've been fortunate enough to play some PBPs with a couple of very good GMs here on Beyond. I plan to blatantly steal from their game plans and hopefully make a decent enough recreation of their efforts. Will there be hiccups as I learn the "behind the scene" controls? You bet! But, if you're up for a little adventure -- likely both literally and figuratively, drop an application below. We'll embark on this inaugural misadventure together.
APPLICATION FORM Feel free to post your application in this thread. Here are the things I will be looking for, as we have some time before the adventure begins and you have time to brainstorm. Please, take this seriously. We all have busy lives outside of this virtual playground so we all -- myself included -- want to make the most of our time gaming when we can. With that said, please know I WILL CONSIDER SERIOUS APPLICATIONS ONLY. If you blitz through this without much thought, I can tell, and you will most likely be overlooked. I'm looking for players who post regularly, have interesting concepts, make an effort, and who are quality players. But most of all, we're gonna have some fun. This is what I'd like to know:
- NAME (Your characters name) - CLASS (Lets keep it to PHB and any official sourcebook choices for now. Characters will start at Level 1. We'll be using standard array for stats.) - BACKGROUND (Tell me about your character) - YOUR TIME ZONE (Where you from?) - YOUR D&D/PBP EXPERIENCE (Got experience?) - YOURSELF (Tell me something interesting about YOU, not your character.) - VOTE FOR TEXT DISCORD CHATROOM FOR OOC AND QUESTIONS (YES/NO)
QUESTIONS? Got questions? I might have answers! Go ahead and send me a PM, I will get back to you as quickly as possible. I know there's probably things I didn't cover, but we'll get to it as we near the start of the adventure. Thanks so much, and good luck!

Curiosity drives this little gnome more than anything. From a young age he would always just "push the button" to see what happens and then write that down in his journal. It drove his parents mad that he would always take things apart and not put it back together again. So they sent him away to a school of magic to have him out of their hair.
He went trough school without much issue. He liked reading the books, but most of all just trying out the new spells he learned. He got into trouble more than most of his fellow students. But eventually he graduated and decided he wanted to explore the world. Books are cool, but seeing the real deal is what he really wants.
Since then he has been on the road and getting into trouble that way. Most of the time when he sees danger he runs into it to study it, only then to discover it was dangerous, luckily so far his magical skills and the travel companions he had so far have kept him alive.

Character Name:Tarak (was created using Point-Buy but I can refactor to Standard Array if I get into the game) Race: Half-Orc Class: Paladin (heading towards Vengeance) Background: Acolyte Brief Backstory: A trainee priest of Gruumsh, his shrine was attacked and destroyed by <a group or organization who work as bad guys in this campaign>. All the priests were killed and the temple razed. He managed to escape and was able to salvage a piece of sacred text which he carries to this day (it's his reliquary holy symbol). The people who destroyed his shrine are on the search for him and it. He is contemplating cutting out his own eye and swearing an oath of vengeance against those who wronged him. In the meantime he hides among the goodly races, using his half-human heritage to pretend to be a goody-goody. Description: Tarak is a huge brute of a man. Standing nearly seven-foot-tall he wears heavy armour, festooned with orc fetishes and tokens. He wields a sharpened greataxe as if it were a toy. For all his savage appearance his accent and vocabulary are both refined and educated. Personality Traits I see omens in every event and action. Gruumsh tries to speak to us, we just need to listen. I am intolerant of other faiths and disdain the worship of other gods, though I do so silently. Ideals Revenge. I hope to one day destroy those who razed my temple. Bonds I seek to preserve a sacred text that my enemies consider heretical and seek to destroy. I carry that text with me. Flaws I am suspicious of strangers and expect the worst of them.
About myself: I've written and published two novels set in my homebrew world of Rodinia (see signature) and I hold a 1st dan black belt in Shotokan karate. Time zone: GMT (UK) D&D experience: Over 40 (yes, forty) years playing D&D at the tabletop. Mostly I've been a DM but I love to play and develop PCs too. Discord chatroom: I'm a big fan of Discord and think it provides much faster OOC chat. But also happy with a simple shared PM on here.
Character Name: Carrow Locke Race/Class: Human (Variant) Monk Background:
Carrow grew up a thief, lurking in dark alleys and running with a small, tight-knit crew who called themselves the "Sludge Rats". The group had been scraping by for years, when an opportunity that would have them set for life fell into their laps. Unfortunately, the job went belly-up and Carrow found himself in stone cell, with nothing but rats for company. Though headstrong in his youth, Carrow discovered something within himself as the years ticked on. Turning his mind inward to avoid the harsh reality of his situation, Carrow discovered an inner peace that he could've never imagined in his reckless and headstrong youth. This allowed the former thief to not only survive, but thrive in the harsh environment.
He couldn't say how much time had passed in that cell, but when his sentence was finally served he left stronger of mind and body than he had ever been. With few ways for a reformed criminal to make an honest living, Carrow joined with a group of adventurers, hoping to leave his past far behind him.
Time Zone: US - Central (Milwaukee) D&D/PbP Experience: Podcasts initially drew me into the DnD world (Sneak Attack, Adventure Zone, Critical Role). I've only ever been able to play via PbP due to RL commitments, and have had a few, fun, long-running campaigns on dndbeyond and reddit. Overall, I've been involved for ~6 years. About myself: Father of 3 (5, 3, 9mo -- hence the need for pbp). I've mentored high school robotics for 14 (and counting) years, helping students to build design and compete in yearly competitions. I've also played trombone for 20+ years, most recently with community jazz and concert bands. Discord Chat: No strong opinion, I've had successful OOC chats using both discord and PM threads in dndbeyond.

- NAME Zedair Daardendarian - CLASS Dragonborn (Green) Fighter - BACKGROUND It's a bit lengthy and full of typos but here ya go:
Zedair was born on the road, somewhere between Neverwinter and the forest to the East of it. His clan has always traveled on the road, a small caravan of green Dragonborn, they raise every type of animal available to them and resell them once they are either tamed, food, or can fetch a price. Many call the Daardendarian monster hunters, which for anyone on the outside of the Clan would know, but the truth is layered so much deeper than that. Zedair was born to Xavia and Tolmuk of the Dendaarian clan. Though they were his birth parents, the Daardendarian's believe in raising the hatchlings as a clan. While he instinctively wanted to please his natural born parents, it soon became apparent that he must win the favor of his clan and survive his journey into adulthood. He was one of seven hatchlings that year and is one of the only 3 who survived the journey to being a full-grown Dragonborn. His parents are still relatively young, the clan pressuring every female who is healthy enough to attempt to have children.
The work of the clan often leads to deaths at any age and can happen at any time. His clan, as far as the histories have said, has never grown to more than 100 at a time. It is currently sitting at around 50 full grown adults and a dozen young. Zedair had decided that his Clan was thinking too small of scope when traveling. Why must his small clan struggle when they could settle down and create roots? His parents and elder clansmen protested his rash decision in search of money and influence, calling his desire to be the natural bred instinct of all Dragonborn to follow their chromatic/colored dragon heritage. The clan decided long ago to only have power over creatures, to appease the desire to control others, that the beasts would be enough. Zedair wanted more, to make his clan the sole source of powerful monsters and creatures, to be hunters of the highest level and to be sought after from cities near and far. The Daardendarian clan must not fade away, they were born with Dragon's blood coursing through their veins, the pride of their strength should be shown and remind the other races that while they are few in number, they should respect the power they hold.
People should search them out for assistance and power. A life of bartering and training creatures is not enough for him. Zedair left home with nothing but a spear, the clothes on his back, and rations for 10 days. He has not seen his clan in 3 years, but he has fought countless enemies and creatures, both on the road and in search of his own food. It wasn't until about 4 months into his journey that he came across a flyer that mentioned fighting for gold and glory, with both man and creature alike. Zedair's narrow eyes lit up at the prospect of showing what he was capable of over both creature and warriors. He started with nothing but a nearly broken spear, but victory after victory had left him earning gold hand over fist. It wasn't long until Zedair was adorned in heavy chainmail armor, a very long glaive in the shape of a dragon's claw, and scars that have healed and been reopened again and again. Eventually, Zedair came to see the types who would come to see him and who paid for these grand events. Sometimes he would even travel to the homes where he would put on a show for those who could pay well enough. It was mostly humans who lived in houses much too grand for their stature and honor. He had spilled the blood of creatures and warriors on the white marble stone, on polished and varnished wood, on balconies, beaches, tavern floors, stone roads, and much, much more.
Zedair learned that most of these rich individuals called themselves nobles. It made him laugh every time, what creature who paid others could call themselves nobles? What he did for money was honorable and there was glory in it. He risked his life against others who did the same. He had slain and spared worthy opponents. These nobles... they never got their hands dirty and weren't willing to clean up after themselves even. With their wealth, power, and influence, Zedair knew he could change not only the fate of his Clan, but teach the world a path of honor and glory as well. So began Zedair's quest for power and influence.

NAME: Alvidor Aarvan (Half-Elf) CLASS: Warlock (The Fiend, Pact of the Tome) BACKGROUND:
After being kidnapped and barely surviving a demonic ritual that left a dark power festering within him, Alvidor was forced to flee his wealthy merchant noble house in the big city. While he was kidnapped, his evil uncle--who as it turned out was working with the foul cult--had killed his father and seized control of the family’s business empire. Only his newfound eldritch powers helped him escape being killed, even though the ritual had left his body thin and weak.
Since fleeing the city, Alvidor has wandered the region, finding adventure and more importantly seeking answers for how to master the dark power within himself that threatens his mind and soul. He feels a vague pull, hears whispers in his dreams, that slowly and inexorably push him from place to place, perhaps where he may find some answers, or perhaps where the darkness within is driving him for its own purposes. He wonders if this path might lead him to greater magic, wealth, and a chance to reclaim the family name.
Now, there is word of another adventure, of a kidnapping victim in need of help. Thinking of his own cruel fate, he has offered to assist in the pursuit of the kidnapper and his victim. (Game Background: Haunted One)

Born in the port city of Luskan, also known as the City of Sails, Zedd was a rebellious child who listened to the songs of the bards and the tales from the smugglers in her family's business from her infancy dreaming of adventure. Although Zedd grew up in the underworld she longed to be a hero like the tales and songs that her childhood inspired! With Zedd's curiosity and perseverance, there's nothing to stop her from finding a way to great acclaim trying to join the Force Grey or any good faction to undermine her family's business. With the right training and mentoring Zedd could quickly become a person of great importance and a legend in her craft. She already knows she makes a good thief having friends in high as well as the lowest of places in society but she wants to do greater things.

Name: Geddryn "Dryn" Prendergast
Race/class: Tiefling (if not allowed) or variant human/Paladin oath of vengeance
Backstory: Abandoned at a far flung monastery devoted to <insert campaign appropriate goddess here) Dryn had a good life learning the ways of her Goddess and helping others. Then disaster struck! A group who came in the night seeking shelter at the monastery was let in bit then over the next few days killed everyone in the temple save Dryn. The young paladin escaped thanks to the order's leader and her mentor/adopted mother. Dryn did not know the villains whom murdered her order but has pledged her life to discovering and destroying them.
*I'm flexible would easily adapt to the campaign setting. Maybe the dungeon has a weapon she can use against the people or maybe it's the people she's hunting dungeon?*

- NAME Koratana Ashana
- CLASS Druid
- BACKGROUND Koratana is a Kalashtar who, always being the quirky one, always had to talk to herself. To others she seems crazy, but to other Kalastar, they know that she's just talking to her Quori spirit. Her desire to help others has led her away from her hermitage and has led her to use her magic that she draws from nature to help shine light in spots covered in darkness.

- BACKGROUND

Character Name: Tarak (was created using Point-Buy but I can refactor to Standard Array if I get into the game)
Race: Half-Orc
Class: Paladin (heading towards Vengeance)
Background: Acolyte
Brief Backstory: A trainee priest of Gruumsh, his shrine was attacked and destroyed by <a group or organization who work as bad guys in this campaign>.
Personality Traits
I see omens in every event and action. Gruumsh tries to speak to us, we just need to listen. I am intolerant of other faiths and disdain the worship of other gods, though I do so silently.
Ideals
Revenge. I hope to one day destroy those who razed my temple.
Bonds
I seek to preserve a sacred text that my enemies consider heretical and seek to destroy. I carry that text with me.
Flaws
I am suspicious of strangers and expect the worst of them.
About myself: I've written and published two novels set in my homebrew world of Rodinia (see signature) and I hold a 1st dan black belt in Shotokan karate.
Time zone: GMT (UK)
D&D experience: Over 40 (yes, forty) years playing D&D at the tabletop. Mostly I've been a DM but I love to play and develop PCs too. I've been active on Beyond in the PbP world for the last year or so, currently playing 3 characters and DMing one campaign (see signature).
Discord chatroom: I'm a big fan of Discord and think it provides much faster OOC chat. But also happy with a simple shared PM on here.
My Homebrew World: The World of Rodinia

Character Name: Carrow Locke
Race/Class: Human (Variant) Monk
Background:

D&D/PbP Experience: Podcasts initially drew me into the DnD world (Sneak Attack, Adventure Zone, Critical Role).

- NAME Zedair Daardendarian
- CLASS Dragonborn (Green) Fighter
- BACKGROUND It's a bit lengthy and full of typos but here ya go:

NAME: Ravavaris Floshem
CLASS: Rogue (Arcane Trickster at Lvl 3)
BACKGROUND: Varis’ first commission for the Zhentarim was to stake out a nuisance gang in Silverymoon. He thought the job beneath him but looking to gain favour and climb through the faction ranks he complied. The gang, The Many Cats, were an amateur outfit, but one of the younger members, a Rock Gnome named Frug Fonkin showed potential. Though he would never admit it, he grew close to the Gnome, mentoring him as a fellow rogue and possible recruit for the faction.
Biting off more than they could chew - a heist targeting a far more dangerous local gang - Varis, fearing for the safety of his new ally sabotaged the job. One of the Many Cats was killed and the rest, Fonkin included, fled the city. Varis had to answer for his actions and while his fate lay in the balance he was dispatched to the Earthspur Mountains to await further instruction.

NAME: Alvidor Aarvan (Half-Elf)
CLASS: Warlock (The Fiend, Pact of the Tome)
