Valen was taken while a child and had experiments done upon him. He escaped with the help of a dwarf artificer who took him far away and helped Valen recover from the many surgical things done to him. He has scars crisscrossing his skin, showing the many attempts made to change him during the experiments.
He stayed with the artificer for many years after the rescue, and learned quite a bit from him during that time. Eventually Valen left, deciding he needed to go out and work to make sure others were not put through what he was. He has dedicated himself to seeking out those who experiment upon others, as was done to him, and to rescue others from such places.
Davtix lived in a very anti-magic kobold clan near an underground lake and drow encampment. He was raised to hate magic and to fish for food. He began playing a lute to entertain him on the long trips out on the lake. One day, he stumbled upon one of the drow, a bard, practicing his magic. Davtix only knew about the wizard part of magic so seeing the drow play a few notes and have lights dance around fascinate him. He approached the drow asking for him to teach his magic to him in exchange for fish. The drow agrees and taught him how to cast magic with music.
A few years later... Davtix was fishing with a friend when he started thinking about a spell as he played. He unintentionally casted Faerie Fire on the fish, causing them to glow and freak out his friend. An hour later, there was an accident at the drow encampment, causing about half of the fish in the lake to die. Davtix's friend blamed him for the death of the fish and his clan was quick to banish him. Davtix left the underdark to explore the surface, help people and to fish at different areas to see what is the difference between fish in other areas.
Khalkin Gol Human Warlock - enthralled to a Great Old One, the name of which, if spoken, would render the speaker's bones to dust.
Khalkin Gol started out life as an apprentice to a mundane sage; then he read that tome. He hasn't been the same since, not that he truly understands that anything is really wrong: Well...perhaps nothing is wrong...
For all his eccentricities (a charitable description) Khalkin Gol is a stout fellow, loyal to his companions (most of the time, when he is not busy running for his life that is), dependable in a pinch (unless he is possessed by his Great Old One, which has never happened...yet). He loathes rats for some strange reason, loves libraries and books, anything pertaining to knowledge really (he will do just about anything in the pursuit of knowledge, except die). He loves beer, thinks wine is ancient giant urine and as a weakness for chocolate (a very rare substance). When he has had too much beer he tends to recite really horrible poetry, getting louder and more horrible in proportion to the volume of beer that flows down his gullet.
This is just a brief introduction to Khalkin Gol, I hope he is the stuff of ledgend.
Dimble is a very talented gnome. Quick fingers, quick wits, and a talent for making jewelry. But Dimble doesn’t want to make jewelry... He wants to be on top. He wants it more than anything. A title, lands, people to lord over. Something to leave his roots behind.
So when Dimble realized that there are a number of noble positions awarded to people of exceptional service, he went looking for his opportunity to get there.

Vanthar
Tiefling - Winged Variant (if that is ok if not can be a "normal" Tiefling)
Warlock
An orphan like most Tieflings Vanthar was passed from one cruel taskmaster to the other for years. When he was fifteen he was working in a barracks stables. Vanthar could hear the stable master on his way. Loud complaints about how filthy the stable was no matter how well it was cleaned. It would be another unjustified beating today. The stable master found Vanthar spat on him and raised his riding crop about to deliver a painful blow.
Everything just seemed to slow down. A muddy reddish-black haze filled Vanthar's vision. Vanthar heard a voice like a wind whispering through gravestones "Agree to serve me and you will have the means to stop this injustice."
Vanthar was frozen with the irrational hate-filled eyes of the stable master glaring at him. He accepted. Time flowed again and Vanthar let out a blast of power that sent the stable master through the far wall into the open court outside. He rushed to stand over the stable master intent on delivering every beating he received from the cruel man back to him. Vanthar sent blast after blast into the man's vile form. Vanthar was so intent on his brutal justice he failed to notice the group of soldiers rush to the stable master's aid. After the first stunning hit, they quickly beat him unconscious with clubs. One of the soldiers drew his sword to kill the obvious offender. The officer of the group called out "Wait. That kid has powers like a mage. He will be useful on the frontlines. Bind him."
