Welcome to Waterdeep, the Crown of the North, where a wondrous tale of urban adventure is about to unfold. Our story begins with the gathering of adventurers at the Yawning Portal Inn and Tavern. Volothamp Geddarm, the famous explorer and raconteur, has a quest for them — one that entangles the characters in a bitter conflict between two nefarious organizations. If the adventurers complete his quest, Volo rewards them handsomely. Yet a much greater prize lies hidden somewhere in the City of Splendors, waiting to be claimed.

Name: Mal'thrae Caerdonnel
Race: Half-drow
Class: Rogue (Future Swashbuckler)
Backstory:
Mal'thrae, son of a renegade male drow and a human female tavern owner, looked up to his rebel of a father even through his wishes that the half-drow not follow in his footsteps. Eventually, he discovered the drow's connections to the legendary drow mercenary company, Bregan D'aerthe. Setting off for the underdark, Mal'thrae soon encountered the legendary swashbuckler Jarlaxle Baenre and talked his way into its ranks. However, he was not particularly skilled and got into trouble often. Jarlaxle approached him about his progress, and the two mutually agreed that Mal'thrae would leave, though he remained in the company leader's good graces and was promised that he would be allowed back once he made a name for himself. Since that day, the half-drow has searched for opportunities and adventures, hoping one of them might serve as his ticket to rejoin his idolized former captain.

Name: Maelfearance
Race: Human
class: Warlock (pact of the tome)
Backstory: Huh, can’t figure out linking char sheet while on phone...
Maelfearance was once a minor noble with some minor responsibility for the monarchs bookkeeping. Finding irregularities, Maelfearance brought this to the attention of the monarchs most trusted advisor, not knowing that he was the source of the embezzlement. Maelfearance soon found himself chained and imprisoned in a soon to be forgotten cell.
Not satisfied with being rid of the threat, the trusted advisor tormented Maelfearance for years, bringing his children to the cell to torture and kill in front of him. When the children were all killed, Maelfearance's wife was dragged into the cell. Death, it was determined, was not enough for her. Instead arcane magics were called forth, little known rituals, and in front of Maelfearance's eyes his wife was sacrificed and transformed into a mummy, forever doomed to live and serve her husband's tormentor.
Maelfearance survived for am untold time within the cell, slowly wasting away both physically and mentally, but kept alive. When he did find death, he did not find release. Instead he found new life... and a bargain.
Awakening from death, Maelfearance was empty, hollow, soulless. The chains that bound him were broken, but not gone. They still dangled from his wrists and ankles, and etched upon the links were the first, simple, basic spells that were part of the shadowy, ill remembered pact that he made with Tharizdun. The details murky, like ink spilled into a forgotten well, the goals were clear: Find and reclaim his wife; Seek vengeance upon the one who ruined him, and their descendants; Gather, create and grow power to carry out his goals until, finally, satisfied, he can release his outrage and power and give it all unto Tharizdun...

Name: Pimster Teace
Race: Lightfoot Halfling
Class: Druid
Backstory: Pimster was born in the middle of the longest, brightest night of the year. At the moment of his birth, a shooting star crossed in front of the full moon, leaving a streaking scar across the sky. An ancient druid appeared out of the grasslands not five breaths later, knocking on the round door of the Teace household. He checked the baby over, finding a birthmark on the baby's face that looked surprisingly like the star-crossed moon in the sky. Satisfied, the druid began an intricate, but somehow caring, ritual to clean the child and rub it with oil. honey, and tea-tree leaves. Once the newborn was prepared, the old human lit a knotted cord of dried grasses and used it as a censer to spread a pleasant, but strong, smoke pattern in the air above them. In a strong voice, he spoke for the first time of the night, reciting an ancient spell in an ancient tongue. For hours, the druid chanted and conducted his ritual, finishing as the new sun first broke over the distant trees. He then walked out of the house and disappeared as suddenly as he had come.
It was never a question that Pim was marked for something great, and his love of the lands and nature grew stronger as he grew older. At the age of apprenticeship, the village druid claimed him, and trained the boy in the ways of the earth and moon and stars. Pimster grew in stature and wisdom, becoming a caring young man with a carefree attitude who was quick to lend a helping hand, but whose will and duty to protect those around him solid as ironwood. Now, the wanderlust that affects some halflings has made the young druid restless to see more of the lands he is so keenly attuned to, and thus he finds himself in Waterdeep.

Name: Wendy Skye (goes by Skye)
Race: Air Genasi
Class: Cleric (Tempest domain.)
Backstory: Skye and her half brother used to move around port towns a lot with their mother who could never quite settle in one place doing one thing. When she died, they kept up that lifestyle, though expanded their nomadic wanderings to everywhere. At least that was Skye's intent. She had embraced the chaotic nature of change from a young age, and like her mother in that regard, staying in one place for too long just didn't sit well with her. For Skye life was an adventure waiting to happen, and it wasn't going to happen by sitting at home. No risk, no reward and Skye loved both the risk and the reward. One day she had overheard travelers talking about Avandra and when she inquired learned more about her. Her brother, always more cautious and hesitant had never understood her desire to leap into every situation. But Avandra. It sounded like Avandrda understood what she was about. The goddess offered the lifestyle she wanted to lead, and so she could follow the goddess in return. Now as well as their adventures, Skye occasionally spreads the word of Avandra, or tries to play priest sometimes much to her brothers chagrin.
She and her brother don't always travel together. Sometimes they split up and go their separate ways, and now is one of those times as Skye makes her way to Waterdeep.

Backstory: Princess Reese is the princess of the SaltBreeze Kingdom, a peninsula in the Six Lands of Shimeria and home to a sea filled with so much salt, you can feel the salt on your face 50 miles from the sea. She enjoys reading books, especially the occasional spellbook she finds in the library. Her mother --,the queen,-- planned to stop a dark lord who intended to take over the kingdom, and with the help of a which, the queen infused her own crown with magical power in order to seal the threat away, although, when she succeeded, the queen disappeared, leaving Reese and her father to rule the kingdom. Five years later, her father was murdered outside the castle by two dwarf brutes, leaving her to run the kingdom alone. She met up with a group of travelers to help her set up at the funeral as well as the 50th annual Great Carriage Race, where she discovered the dark lord was released and about to take control of the kingdom. Using her mother's crown, she was able to get rid of the dark lord once and for all. Now, Reese heads out on her own adventure to explore the great big world out there.
Sometime during her journey, she stumbled across a portal to Waterdeep.

With such goodness and grace to guide him, Hope (as he named himself upon reaching adulthood) set out with Uther's blessing to serve as a paladin, both to serve as an example to his kin and to disprove the bias many people had against them.

The boy was quick witted and willing to learn, and he picked up all sorts of bits of knowledge and trivia from the inn's customers, but none-moreso than from a blind minstrel, Aveadon Rhemor, who taught the boy the basics of music and storytelling, and when he was old enough, a bit of magic as well. Aveadon passed away recently, supposedly from old age and drink according to the local guardsmen, though Falkwyn suspects foul play. As such, he's kissed his mother good-bye, collected his own belongings, such as they are, and is venturing out on his own for the first time...let Waterdeep beware!

Seems to be an average set of rolls compared to most of the characters posted above. :)
I withdrew my application because my rolls were 'normal', there can be quite a disparity between Point Buy and Reroll all 1s.
@DM - how would you be resolving the difference in stats between characters, given some characters above would have +5 to their main attack stat straight off the bat, while others taking Point Buy might be waiting till level 6/8? Same with saves - I had rolled two 9s, I doubt it would be fun for people if the rest of the group laughs as they make every saving throw, while one person is getting hammered. Or you scale the DCs up to match the higher stat players and the lower stat players have no chance as a result.
Might be worth considering a minimum stat total for those rerolling 1s, as most characters above have a total of mid 80s to low 90s, where standard array for example has a total of 73 (and point buy doesn't usually end up much different).
I mention all this because I'm really interested in applying, but I've been in games before where there's been a large spread in stats that didn't work out well.
