Welcome to the city of splendors. No matter if you come from near or far, Waterdeep is a city full of adventure. For one reason or another you have come to the city and found your way to the Yawning Portal, an inn for adventurers, whether if be to stay, to look for work, to drink, or to meet with friends.
I am looking for between 3 to 5 adventurers of the first level to join in a treasure hunt across the city. There shall be a lot of roleplay, some exciting fights, mysteries to be solved, and villains to defeat. I would ask that you try to tie your character to Waterdeep, the entire adventure happens in the city and there are opportunities to join guilds like the Zhentarim, Xanathar's guild, the Order of the Gauntlet, the Harpers, the Lord's Alliance, Force Grey, Emerald Enclave, Bregan D'aerthe, along with all of the city's smaller guilds. The more attached you are to the city the better.
For character creation, 4d6 reroll 1s once for stats, you can reroll if you have less than 70 total or use point buy. Tasha's racial and class options are all okay, if you want custom lineage, I just want you to give a reason why you are using it over a normal race. UA content is generally okay as long as you check in with me, I just like warning when it comes to that.

Name: Morgan Amcathra Race: Variant Human Class: Barbarian ( Background: Waterdavien Noble Backstory:
Morgan's family has permanent rooms in the family villa in waterdeep. His father is the heir, with Morgan in line after him. Morgan has his father's temper in full, which has caused his early life to be turbulent to say the least. He has gotten into trouble with the City Watch more often than not, and has had to be hauled back to his family's villa quite a few times over the years. His father and Morgan have had legendary shouting matches, the two rubbing on each other like salt on an open wound when their tempers are roused. Luckily his mother is a voice of reason and was able to calm both of them down, or things may have come to blows more than once.
These days Morgan works to keep his temper more under control, though his rage is hardly diminished. He tries to focus it though, instead of just lashing out in a fit of temper. He venerates his family's ancestors, and has learned to call on them when he is truly enraged.
I'd love to finally get through a game, let's do this!!

Name: Valynn Adlana
Race/Class: Aereni High Elf, Wizard
Background: Gladiator
Backstory: Having travelled all the way from the island of Aerenal, Valynn craves glory above all, as all of her kind do. She has a knack for throwing hands and spells in various fighting rings in the city - both arenas and the less legal kinds of fights. She doesn't even care much for winning or losing (though she prefers winning, duh) as much as just the thrill of the fight in general, the fighting techniques of her people (especially the rare art of bladesinging) being shown on full display.
(Possible Factions): Harpers, Force Gray
(Possible Guilds): Council of Musicians [Flute], Order of Magists and Protectors [Wizard]
Fun Fact about Me: I'm left handed, speak mandarin, and am in college to become an Architect
D&D Experience: 3 years, 2 years of PBP
Have I played WDH Before: Twice, neither game finished, neither game got to the villain.
Backstory: Elinion was not born noble. His parents were commoners, but his father died of disease and his mother was killed in a freak accident. He was adopted by his maternal 2nd Cousin, once removed, who was a noble. He went to live in Waterdeep with her. As he grew, he was instructed in the fine points of archery. One fateful day, he stumbled through a portal to the Feywild. To him, it felt like he was there for a year, but to everyone else, it was only a day. While there, he began study into fey and ancient elven magics. Despite being a fighter, he is almost as studious as a wizard.
(Sorry, It's a bit scattered. I've got the concept down, it' just a bit rough still)
Fun fact about me: I speak a little bit of Sindarin
D&D Experience: Roughly 300. (I've played for 2.5ish years, most of which has been spent DMing)
I've played Dragon Heist before, but only the first chapter, and it was a while ago.
Guardian was commissioned to be built by a wealthy Waterdeep nobleman to be a bodyguard for his young daughter. Over the next five years he was with Aneera at all times and they were very close. Aneera was a precocious and high spirited youngster and was pulled out of quite a few hairy situations by Guardian. Aneera passed away at the age of twelve from an unexpected illness and Guardian was devasted by the loss of his charge. He requested to be released from the family’s service. As the nobleman had no other children, no longer required his service, and was satisfied with Guardian’s exceptional past service he let him go. Now Guardian is looking for a something to keep his mind off his grief and it looks like an adventure would be the perfect activity.

I grew up in a noble family of Waterdeep. growing up, I was taught how to be a politician, how to game people. my parents wished me to join the Waterdeep council, and thus bring honer to my family name.
there was just one problem. I hated politics. I hated playing people, lying, saying things to make me look good, and devoting my whole life to arguing! the only part of it I enjoyed was keeping order, and delivering justice.
one day, I was walking through Waterdeep, in one of my few moments of free time. as I walked, a women walked up to me and told me of the deity Torm. suddenly I knew what to do with my life. I devoted myself to Torm, doing his will.
I follow Torm to this day...

he youngest son of 6 brothers, Breg didn't have much future in the family business except as a minor player. He was never particularly good at anything, however he was a bit good at almost everything. Fascinated by the court, Breg spent his time dressed up and worked his way into the good graces of several nobles at court, as an advisor on trade and business. On the surface this was a perfect position, and Breg with his family support fit in perfectly. It seemed this would lead to a stable if not famous or rich life. Often they would rob the houses of nobles or competitive traders, taking extra cash or valuables. Was it the thrill? Was it always wanting more? Breg looks back now and still is not sure, however finally it ended badly. On one particular robbery of a minor noble house, they stumbled upon the tray trappings of a cult of fiends. Devils. A sacrifice in progress. His friend Rinc was killed, while Breg escaped with his life. He stopped showing up to court, and has been somewhat lost...however he still is ambitious, and he still misses the thrill of the hunt....

Name: Jeremiah
Race/Class: Wizard (Order of the Scribe - relates to the magic book)
Background: Urchin
Backstory: Jeremiah grew up on the streets, with all the malnourishment and other horrors that entailed, then around a year ago he found a magic book (or the book found him), and he was able to start protecting himself and his (very few) friends from the bigger kids, and other - worse - predators. He’s not sure how old he is - somewhere between 11 and 14 is his best guess - but life on the streets has forced him to grow up fast.
Fun fact about you: I write haiku style poetry - and often challenge myself to write poems based on random things / words.
D&D experience: Some experience as both player and DM. Just a year or so with 5e, but also with 2nd many moons ago..
Backstory: Belcraes grew up in Waterdeep, having spent most of his childhood in one of the poor districts of the city. While not as bad off as others his mother and father never had much money to speak of, as his father who like him was a half elf would spend most of it to keep himself out of jail.
Around the time he was a teenager his father ended up on the wrong side of a turf war between two groups of thugs, one of which was from the Xanthar Guild. While a small investigation was made, the guards barely out effort into due to it not being someone of important. This made Belcraes see them as useless, leading him to begin his own investigation into the matter. Over several months of doing this, the young half elf was able to hunt down one of the thugs involved and through an intense period of questioning was able to hunt down his father's killer.
Turning him over to the guards, he learned that he could get money for doing what they couldn't due to the regulations that needed to be followed. Deciding to change the city for the better he began his work as a bounty hunter, doing the dirty deeds needed to take down criminals.
Fun fact about you: I am restoring my grandfather's 1953 Ford truck and should have it back on the road by this summer.

Name: Natur Stimin
Race/Class: Half-Orc Druid (Most likely going healer or utility)
Background: Outlander
Backstory: Natur was born to a half-orc father and a human mother. Growing up with his parents, four siblings, and a whole lot of wolves, Natur and his family were always moving, never staying in one spot for too long. They would make coin selling pelts and meat from hunting and trapping. Into his teens, Natur started to follow his human mother's faith as a worshipper of Silvanus, The Oak Father. After suffering nightmares as an adult of an upcoming disaster, Natur left his family to go on his pilgrimage in the name of Silvanus to help save the land from this upcoming disaster and grow his strength. (He has been on an adventure before.)
Fun fact about you: I've co-authored a 25 page research proposal once about the cheating habits of salamanders.
D&D experience: Over 1 Year
Have you played WDH before, if so what villain was used: I played a PbP of WDH, I entered when one left but it was ended very soon after. I never knew the villain.
Backstory: Sea elves were highly sought after on the fishing docks of Waterdeep. Their ability to fish where no land dweller could meant only the biggest and freshest crustaceans - which of course meant bigger prices.
It was here that Tralen found himself for many years. He'd come to Waterdeep what seemed like a lifetime ago. His work had started as a means to an end, but now, that end had been given a new direction. He had found faith - a belief in a being greater than he. During a recent deep water trawling his boat had been capsized by a severe storm. All crew perished but him. In this moment he vowed to whichever of the sea gods would listen that he would turn the tide of his life and help to bring the word of Their power to the land lovers.
Most folk in the City of Splendors had their own beliefs, but there was one crowd that might listen. Adventurers. They were the kind of folk that might appreciate the power of the Seas, as Tralen had heard they were more open minded. Time would tell it seems. The elf opens the door to the infamous Yawning Portal and steps in.
Fun fact: I own 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 horses, 6 chickens and about 50 birds. I actually don't know how I find time to do anything.
D&D experience: In an ongoing PbP here for over a year plus about 5 years of 2.5e back when it was a thing.
Ever played WDH: Nope. I can only guess the villain is a BBEG.

Ability scores: 71310161613
Name: Shayne McGee
Race/Class: Human (variant?) Bard
Background: Charlatan
Backstory:
Shayne grew up in a happy, well adjusted family in a small town. He longed for something more. He wanted to live the tales he heard about warriors and adventurers, he wanted the lifestyle of those who live life, rather than those who raise crops. Shayne grew up telling stories, making things up, craving the spotlight... As he got a bit older, he found a kind of home in the local tavern by entertaining the crowd with his tales, occasionally his songs. But his town was only so big, and the audience never really changing. He needed bigger crowds, more variety... More of everything.
Finding that a sufficiently distracted crowd could easily "lose" a coin or jewel or two, Shayne funded his plan to leave town just in time to stay ahead of the growingly suspicious townsfolk. On the road to Waterdeep Shayne continued stopping at pubs and taverns and such, entertaining for a coin or three - legally earned or accidentally found. Shayne always found a way to make some coin and wander on before the authorities paid too much attention to his activities...
Waterdeep... Now that was a real city! So many people, so many opportunities. One would be able to make an honest living there on skills alone! Not that Shayne would necessarily go that route, after all where was the fun in that? But in such a large city one could get lost just by changing taverns and neighborhoods and less walking town to town definitely sounded good to Shayne.
Fun fact about you: Ummm, I have a piece of pencil lead in my big toe from when I accidentally kicked a pencil 35ish years ago?
D&D experience: Played a bit of AD&D back in early 80s. Many many years of being totally away from D&D and then refund the game here when the pandemic hit and have been playing some PbP since then.
Have you played WDH before, if so what villain was used: Have not done Waterdeep yet...

Hello, there! :) I'll throw my hat in for this one.
Name:Iiloryn Vae'lia Race/Class: Moon Elf (High Elf) / Rogue (future multiclass into Ranger and Wizard, trying to capture the feel of an Evereskan Tomb Guardian from 3.5) Background: Investigator (variant City Watch) Backstory: An aspirant Tomb Guardian from the city of Evereska, Iiloryn is taking part on a new method of training adopted after the Tomb Guardians were nearly wiped in the war against the phaerimm, in which the young elves must venture outside the hidden city and spend years among the aethen—the others—learning the ways of the most common robbers of elven treasures, then find an important piece of elven culture and return it to their proper owners. In his quest, Iiloryn made his way south towards Elturel and circled west towards Baldur's Gate, then north all the way to Waterdeep, where he heard of the treasures inside Undermountain, suspecting some pieces of early elven history might be among those. He may be interested in briefly joining Force Grey for the adventuring possibilities, maybe also while collaborating with the Emerald Enclave, which goes in line with the general interests of his people. Fun fact about you: The very first time I've played an RPG I had to come up with a rules system from scratch since I accidentally had bought an adventure module instead of a system handbook, which were out of stock (and particularly hard to come by where I live). D&D experience: The forever DM since 1999. Have you played WDH before, if so what villain was used: I've DMed it in 2018 throwing ALL the villains against the party, but they ended up mostly focusing on the Xanathar. Though I basically remember none of the details and I haven't even read through the other villain's chapters.
I think I'll close this tomorrow afternoon PST and let yall know.
A few other updates I added to the main post: Level 1 incase folks were wondering. I am more than okay with multiple people of the same class if they are interesting characters that aren't carbon copies of each other. This adventure goes to level 5, if the group is great I may see about moving into another module after.

Oriovar - Wood Elf Cleric (1) - Sword Coast Campaign
Roy Quigley - Human Artificer (1) - Karrion's Spelljammer Academy Starboard
Name: Tralen Goltorah
Race|Class: Sea-elf | Cleric (Tempest)

Ability scores: 7 13 10 16 16 13
We're doing one small murder-y thing for a bigger, better reason. The ends justify the means.

Hello, there! :) I'll throw my hat in for this one.
Name: Iiloryn Vae'lia
Race/Class: Moon Elf (High Elf) / Rogue (future multiclass into Ranger and Wizard, trying to capture the feel of an Evereskan Tomb Guardian from 3.5)
Background: Investigator (variant City Watch)
Backstory: An aspirant Tomb Guardian from the city of Evereska, Iiloryn is taking part on a new method of training adopted after the Tomb Guardians were nearly wiped in the war against the phaerimm, in which the young elves must venture outside the hidden city and spend years among the aethen—the others—learning the ways of the most common robbers of elven treasures, then find an important piece of elven culture and return it to their proper owners.

Quick update on a few things
Yes V human is alright.
