Driven from lands farther north by more powerful dragons, a young white dragon named Cryovain has descended upon the Sword Mountains, claiming the snow-capped range as its domain. Typical of its kind, Cryovain is dim-witted and cruel. The dragon patrols the skies around Icespire Peak, surveying its territory while hunting for food and easy treasure. With each passing day, the dragon’s domain grows as it ranges farther across the land, preying on anything it can catch with its claws or freeze to death with its icy breath. Sightings of the dragon are becoming more common, as are its attacks.
A crumbling fortress on the northeast spur of Icespire Peak serves as the dragon’s lair. Cryovain seized the icy fortress from a tribe of savage orcs, killing the orc war chief and forcing the tribe’s survivors to flee into the foothills and forests. Enraged by the death of their war chief, the orcs have called upon ancient allies — evil, shapechanging, half-orc spellcasters who bless and advise them. These half-orcs worship Talos, an evil god of storms, and many dwell in the dark depths of Neverwinter Wood. In stormy weather, they gather on remote hilltops to summon Gorthok the Thunder Boar, a primal entity that serves Talos. Like the god it serves, Gorthok delights in destruction.
The orcs aren’t the only creatures thrown into upheaval by Cryovain’s sudden arrival. A manticore driven from its mountaintop nest by the roaming white dragon has migrated to the foothills and begun terrorizing folk living on the outskirts of the mining town of Phandalin. Other monsters in the region have been similarly displaced.

Prince Theodoric is the first son of Lord Gundarr Greatshield and heir to the throne of the Ironheart. He grew up as all nobles should, trained in in the lore of the dwarves and the ways of battle. His life as a dwarf of privilege came to an abrupt end at the age of 92. The miners of the IronHeart unearthed a dreadful evil deep within the mountain. Savage creatures surged from the earth, slaughtering every dwarf they could find. With the Ironheart facing extermination, a desperate plan was hatched. The fort's vault held a relic of an ancient battle, an orb dripping with dark and demonic magic. It would turn anyone who touched it into a mindless, bloodthirsty berserker. They would take volunteers into the mine, imbue them with the berserker curse, and seal them in with the monsters. 50 dwarves volunteered, Theodoric the youngest of them. When they unsealed the mine, only seven remained. But the curse had not finished its work yet. The berserker spirit carried on within the survivors. Their rage made them volatile and dangerous. The elders of the IronHeart decided it would not be safe for them to remain in the dwarven lands. Theodoric was removed from the line of succession, and he and the other six survivors were banished from the dwarven realm. Theodoric now roams the land, looking for a way to remove the berserker curse that burns within him. He's traveled to Phandalin after hearing rumors of an artifact in the vaults of the Phandelver mines
Class: Ranger (have not decided on a subclass, open to whatever works best with the party)
Alignment: Neutral Good
Appearance: Aura has very distinctive features unique to the Air Genasi. Her pale blue skin and its strange strange whorls, fluffy white hair and lilac eyes certainly make her stand out in a crowd. (See pfp for reference)
Personality: Aura is very cheerful and bubbly, a true optimist always looking to make friends with any whom she may stumble across. However, she is also very naive, often misreading or just not understanding certain situations. This can lead to her getting entangled in potentially harmful situations without her truly comprehending the danger she may be facing.
Backstory:Coddled and protected from the outside world by a single human father, Aura Dyernina lived a very sheltered life. Her wealthy father was well-meaning, but his constant surveillance left her isolated with nothing but herself to keep her entertained. Aura used books to escape this loneliness, finding solace in the fantasy worlds of words. Unfortunately for her father, these books would lead to an insatiable lust for adventure - the genasi longed to be like one of the heroes from her stories. Eventually her overwhelming need for excitement beat down her love of her father, and desperate to become the main character of her own story, the Genasi ran away from home. Due to her fathers protection from all things he considered “dangerous”, Aura is extremely naive, and this combined with her friendly nature got her in a few tricky situations when she left home. Somehow she managed to get out of each without even realising the depth of the situation, and continued on her search for adventure. This continued on for some time, until Aura heard rumours of a dragon terrorising the area Icespire Peak, and thinking this the perfect opportunity, began her journey to Phandalin.
Appearance: Very Pale with Dark Hair and blue eyes, slender and wiry. About 5'-10".
Personality: Quiet and slightly nervous, alwasy looking over his shoulder.
Backstory: Orphaned at a young age, Vedui was taken in by the Order of the Long Death monestary in Thay. There he studied death and all it's forms, and began a search for the "Perfect Death". However, Vedui soon learned that the Order was not what he wanted. Cruel and inhumane in their treatment of others and often torturing captured humanoids, this turned Vedui's stomach, and he sought escape. The final straw came when he and two others of his order came upon some traveling merchants. After purchasing some items and talking with them, Vedui turned to leave, only to find that the other members of his order decided that some study of death was due, and they slew the traders with bare hands, even to the point of choking out a young child. Vedui stared in horror....He told the members of the order...he was done....No more. They gave him 24 hours and told him he was a hunted man and they would enjoy learning from his death....
He has been running for half a year now, the farther from Thay the better. Phandallin seemed far enough away that he was safe.
Appearance: Basically this, but with magical energy instead of steam.
Personality: Endlessly curious. It wants to learn everything and hear everyone's perspective. While generally a pacifist, it has a command word that puts it into 'combat mode'.
Backstory: Only a few weeks old, Sterling is a "golem" who was the result of a collaborative project between dwarves and elves. It quickly proved itself to be much more than a mindless golem and had its sentience recognized by a dwarven court, allowing it to go wherever it pleased. Neverwinter is its ultimate destination, but it decided to make a stop in Phandalin along the way.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
