Hey, just trying this out. Starting a campaign and want to see how this will work. If no one likes this, you may leave. It's just a crazy idea I wanted to try.
Normal adventure, 5-6 characters, probably PHB and UA only for material.
Here's the catch. I won't close it after 5 or 6 because everyone else may add action (but not characters) to the adventure; I'll deal with combat encounters and I'll only add adventure stuff if the story drags. Sounds good? Ok. See you then!

Rogue Shadow, the DM (and occasional) PC with schemes of inventive thinking
BackStory : Orphaned at a young age while her druidic parents were out assisting with a blight in a nearby forest she has found herself alone in the wilderness and learned that her skill with Druidic spells and animals sustains her well but she yearns for adventure and seeks a nearby village for travelers who might allow her to join them.
Name: Duke Bryant Race: Gnome Class: Bard Background: Entertainer Backstory: Duke always had a nack of making people smile. Whether it was with a well timed joke, or nicely toned song. Growing up he taught himself how to play the Lute and made his coin by entertaining people out on the streets, becoming somewhat well known around the area. However, this life did not bring him what he truely wanted, a family. Sure there were women, but none were his soulmate.
Wanting to spread his fame even wider, and maybe find his love elsewhere, he set out to other towns, bringing joy in song to those who needed it. And who knows, maybe find his one true love.
Backstory: Ertix used to travel with his father, Garrin, as a kid, watching his father fight monsters while he hid behind trees and in bushes. But one day, the unthinkable happened. His father took down orc after orc with his bow, shooting with impeccable accuracy to save an elven woman from being eaten by the orcs. But Garrin didn't notice the hobgoblin leader sneaking up behind him, and as Ertix yelled "WATCH OUT!", it was too late. A sword pierced through his father, and his body fell limp. Then, the elven woman broke free from her bonds, and transformed into a bear, ripping the hobgoblin to shreds.
Once the battle was over, the elven woman saw a rustling in the bushes. She went over, and saw a crying gnome child inside the bush. "Come with me. I can help you." she said in a soothing voice. She held out her hand, and Ertix took it. Ever since, Ertix has had a deep hatred for goblinoids and orcs; he searches the forest regularly for these creatures, killing any he encounters.
Backstory: Zakon used to be an acolyte at a temple in his city of birth. After a few years of watching the priest in charge abuse his power, he decided to take matters into his own hands. He managed to replace/repay some of the money the priest had stolen, but was caught during his last attempt at pilfering from the alms box and was forced to flee. Since then he's been wandering the world, finding any place he could to rest his head.
Nick always had a mean streak, whenever there was a brawl at one of his shows, he'd always join in, and eventually due to his antics he was forced out of polite society.

Cult of Sedge
Rangers are the best, and have always been the best
Backstory: Giddle was born into longline of wizards and tinkers of all kinds. From a young age he shared in their interests and spent hours upon hours creating various little clockwork toys and other little contraptions. With age his curiosity grew and he left home to travel the world and find out what other races built that were like what he himself was interested in.
After a few years of traveling he took an apprentice ship in a crafts guild where he prospered due to both his talents and his willingness to try anything in order to create a new piece of technology or some other arcane object. While studying he heard of a once great civilization in a book and suddenly was hit with a surge of wanderlust.
Within a week he settled all of his affairs and then like a hyperactive child, Giddle set out with only the things he could carry on his back to go off in search of this ancient civilization.

So, what was the general consensus: 1st or 5th level?

If we get 5 Gnomes, I'll be happy.

I'm already happy because the party is currently all gnomes. This is a gnomes only campaign now. ;)

I don't "gnome" how the adventure will turn out, but I "gnome" this will be interesting
Rogue Shadow, the DM (and occasional) PC with schemes of inventive thinking
It's definitely a good thing to gnome that all of our characters are gnomes.
