The king is dead. Long live the queen! Dark days lie ahead for the city of Korvosa, and its fate will fall into the hands of our heroes.
Hello all, I am looking for 4-6 players to run through a Curse of the Crimson Throne 5e campaign. It is one of the original, and greatest, Pathfinder Adventure Paths, with great encounters and fun mechanics. If you are interested, please familiarize yourself with this free player's guide and apply here with the following:
Character Name: Race: (PHB only, no dragonborn) Class: (PHB, XGE, TCE only) Ability Scores: (point buy or standard array) Backstory: (also explain how you were wronged by Gaedren Lamm)
Because I do not yet have the post history to back me up, here's an example of my posting style, for a Norse-themed campaign. If you are in Allsgard, don't look!
It is the first day of the year 1518 A.V.W., and the first day of spring; Varbod, as it is called, or "Springfest" in the common tongue. Our story begins at the meadhall of the small town of Hedmark. Rows of long tables filled with humans, dwarves, and the odd halfling or two, pack the hall tightly, and it's all the servants can do to navigate through the excitable crowd to bring plates heaped with meats, cheeses, and bread to those who have finished their first or second serving, and mead to those who are already deep in their cups. You watch the excitement from a place of privilege, seated at the head table to the left of the host. Tonight, you sup on only the finest cuts of lamb, and drink only the best aged mead. Even from the head table, it is difficult to hear yourself think over the din of conversation.
You have had the opportunity this past year to get to know many of the faces you see before you; there's Agni Ulagson, the town's blacksmith. You know that his daughter, Eira, has been proposed to by several young gentlemen, none of which Agni has found worthy of wedding his daughter. There's Thorgren Harshnag, a jewelry-maker. For this Varbod, you may have donned several of his gifts to you to dress better for the occasion. And who could forget Helga, the town's resident shaman who saw the people through a harsh winter.
The noise of the crowd suddenly dies down, as you see your host, Jarl Sigrid Vradnrdottir, standing atop the table, demanding everyone's attention. She is a tall woman, thickly built, with long and braided brown hair. As soon as the hall goes quiet, save for the errant belch, she looks over the people in the hall and says, with a straight face, "I don't think I've ever met a sorrier sack of gluttons and lushes than you lot in my life."
The silence continues for a moment. Then, from the crowd, there is a slight chuckling. The jarl's face cracks into a grin, and soon the hall is filled with uproarious laughter. Sigrid holds her horn high and declares, "Happy Varbod, you sorry lot! You crafters!" A cheer from the crowd. "You builders!" Another cheer. "You drinkers!" A third cheer that dwarfs the first two. "Of course, none of this would be possible without the guests of honor for today's feast!" She gestures to you. "Without them, I would not be where I am tonight, and you would still be fighting over who is to rule you now. Of course, you've heard the stories, but let us hear them again tonight!" A cheer rises from the crowd, and Sigrid turns to you. "Come on, then! It's custom for guests to share stories of their adventures when invited to a feast!"
Take this moment to describe yourself, and we will get into the "flashback" afterwards.
He's not running a pathfinder game, he's adapting a pathfinder adventure for D&D 5e.
I'm definitely interested! Assume starting at first level?
Zahira https://ddb.ac/characters/45172218/ejzkoS Race: Variant Human Class: Rogue (Going Soulknife) Ability Scores: STR 12, DEX 16, CON 14, INT 14, WIS 8, CHA 12. Backstory: Zahira was abandoned by her parents as a toddler. She was taken in by various people but always got kicked out for being a bit off. She started living on the streets, begging and stealing on her own, but was eventually taken in by Gaedran Lamm. As she grew older, she grew tired of the unfairness of the way Lamm treated his charges and ran away. She made her way as an independent thief, until she grew bored. She's tried reinventing herself since then, living as a merchant, trying to join the Korvosan guard, a scholar, even some time as a courtier. She is currently looking over her life, trying to find a new direction.
Character Name: Blue (Jon Crash) Race: Half Elf Class: Sorcerer Draconic (Blue) Ability Scores: s8 d16 c14 i10 w10 c17 Backstory: Born to an unwed human mother, Blue began his life as an outcast. It was bad enough with his half-elven heritage, however the blue color to his skin and the dragon scales that cover parts of his body only made him stand out more. Hence the name Blue. He began working with his uncle Joe Crash as a private investigator and bounty hunter, hunting criminals or others who had fallen foul of the law or other "organizations". At the same time, his draconic heritage began to show....he suddenly could speak draconic...and do magic. There was a pact made on the elven side of his family, of which he didn't know, as his mother refused to even speak of his father.
Then, one day...his uncle Joe is dead. There was a fight. His uncles short blade was covered in blood and he had gave them hell, but whoever it was had ended him. Later, Blue was able to find some of his uncle's items at a shop, and was able to figure out who had sold them...Gaedran Lamm...Was it due to something his uncle was investigating? Blue didn't know...but he would get revenge...
Heidi Heathertoe was one of her village watchers, charged with its defense. She was tending to a sick relation in another settlement when the goblins struck. When she arrived back home, it was a scene of carnage and destruction. The homes smoldering, the elders and fighters slain, the rest taken.
For the first time, Heidi offered a prayer to Thamir Gixx, and swore an Oath to avenge the fallen, and find the lost. A raccoon had crossed her path, eyeing her curiously, and Heidi took it as a sign. Strangely enough, her faithful wolfhound did not even seem aware of its presence.
The hunt took some time, but she followed the raccoon, and eventually did catch up with the goblin raiders. Heidi waited until twilight, and snuck into their encampment. Half of them were dead before they realized what was happening. The last one breathing told her where she could find the survivors from her village. Then she ran him through, and he slumped to the ground.
The survivors had been sold to a man called Gaedren Lamm, a vile peddler of flesh in a nearby city. Apparently he ran a gang of children through intimidation, and wasn’t opposed to accepting smallfolk into their ranks.
So far, Heidi has had no success in finding him, so she intends to take the matter to the Queen herself! Putting communities to the torch with impunity, and slavery! Outrageous! But to gain the regal attention and seek an audience, she must enter the list.
She is a sight, to be sure, leading her wolfhound up to register for the tourney. She wears chain, and has sword and shield and spear. And the gods. She is ready.
Personality Traits: Despite my noble birth, I do not place myself above other folk. We all have the same blood.
Ideals: Responsibility. It is my duty to respect the authority of those above me, just as those below me must respect mine. (Lawful)
Bonds: The common folk must see me as a hero of the people.
Flaws: By my words and actions i often bring shame to my family.
Barilius is the youngest son of an extended branch of House Laroung. He has never felt comfortable as a nobleman. To the great consternation of his family, he instead chose a life of piety and service, joining the Bank of Abadar as a holy paladin. He has great compassion for the poor and believes that by honoring the law and social order any person can lift themselves up to achieve greatness. To this end when he is not working at the Grand Vault he volunteers his time at various orphanages and schools, including Orisini Academy, working with Vencarlo and other community educators to teach the youth about faith and civic duty. He has come to know of Gaedren Lamm, a despicable crime lord who lures children out of school and turns them to a life of pretty crime and drug use. The destruction of such great potential, and the damage it causes to society, is a grave sin in Barilius's eyes.
He is devoted to the church of Abadar and its role in stabilizing and enriching the city, yet acknowledges that Korvosa is corrupted and socially stratified to an unacceptable degree. The poverty found in the Shingles, and in districts like Bridgefront, highlight a failure of the church to reach the poor. Its requirement of compensation for aid is misguided, for Barilius believes that the future contributions a person makes to society are payment enough for "charity" rendered today. This is why he always encourages his pupils and others to likewise assist others in any way they can, whether it be with money, community service, or simple kindness. Any contribution to one's community, however small, is a testament to Abadar. He often states that the bank should seek further inroads with other faiths in Korvosa to increase the services it can provide to the poor. This has sometimes placed him at odds with others in the faith. His humble nature and rejection of opulence has also garnered disfavor from his family. But for Barilius, securing a stable and brighter future for Korvosa's citizens is simply more important.
Character Name: Chazrael Teadrinker Race: Stout Halfling Class: Ranger (Gloomstalker) Ability Scores: Point Buy - STR 10 DEX 17 CON 14 INT 12 WIS 14 CHA 8 Backstory:
Chazrael Teadrinker was destined to hunt monsters at a young age. Years before he was born, his grandparents, Kara and Carlton Teadrinker, were members of a monster-hunting company with their friend Seymor Archibold. During a mission where they hunted a vampire lord, Seymor killed the monster and absorbed his essence, becoming a vampire himself. His first victim was Carlton. Kara cursed Marquis and vowed that her family would forever hunt the evils of the world, not for revenge, but to make sure innocent people would not suffer like she did. She spent her life researching and hunting monsters of all kinds, which was not easy as she had to raise her son Lucien, Chazrael’s father. Kara and Lucien lived in Teadrinker Manor, outside of a halfling hamlet. While many of the townsfolk regarded her with suspicion, monster hunters and rangers respected Kara and would often stay at the manor. Even today, the structure houses some of the oldest knowledge of vampires, werewolves and demons. Kara taught Lucien the basics of monster hunting and self-defense though understood that he was not a hunter like her. Lucien went on to become a successful merchant, get married and raise a family, all of which Kara was proud of her son for accomplishing. Chazrael was different from his father. He idolized his grandmother and became interested in hunting creatures of the night. Kara taught her grandson everything she had taught Lucien and then more. At a young age, Chazrael learned how to fire a bow and other ranger skills. Lucien did not dissuade his son, yet warned him about the dangers of monster hunting and encouraged him to take a rest to recharge himself.
Chazrael learned of Gaedren Lamm from one of his close friends, Beetle the Small. Beetle revealed he was taken by Lamm and forced into a life of crime before Lamm gave him to a vampire. Chazrael and his vampire ally Julis Van Radmer rescued Beetle. As Beetle divulged his past he said he regretted losing his childhood. Angered, Chazrael told Beetle he'd kill Lamm. When he learned of Lamm's death, Chazrael said he'd spit on the crimelord's corpse for Beetle and the other children taken by Lamm.
