My group has been playing on and off for a year now and progressing slowly, we don't really mind since we've been friends for a long time and don't get to meet regularly. We lost our sorcerer very early on but still had a magic heavy cleric so weren't too worried but now our cleric has missed the last three or so sessions and we're pretty sure he just wants to exit in general.
We don't mind but this has left us a little vulnerable magic-wise. We are all level 3 and have me, a ranger beast master that mostly uses bows, a rogue assassin, a rogue arcane trickster, a fighter, and a barbarian.
I think our best plan of action at this point would be for me to take on a cleric or paladin multiclass since I don't think the others will but I've never multiclassed before. Any help would be greatly appreciated on preparing a somewhat useful ranger/healer.
Edit: also considering the loss of magic users my DM would probably be fine with me losing beast master for another subclass if that helps at all.
Druid makes a lot of sense. It'll give you some healing options and battlefield control spells. Plus a beast master turning into an animal seems fitting.
For added fun say nothing to your party then use wildshape out of nowhere. Go into detail about the transformation.
I'd use something other than moon druid for this multiclass as they are all about wildshape.
I'd definitely look at MC into either cleric or druid; ranger doesn't really impress me much past about level 5. Paladin is too attribute dependent. It's not a good fit for rangers imo. Druid is pretty solid, and circle of dreams in particular makes a pretty good healer. if you want to augment your magic damage, light cleric might be a solid pick up. your party will stand up and take notice when your "ranger" drops his first fireball.
EDIT: That group of martials would really like it if you drop a bless to help augment their attack rolls too. I think I'd probably strongly look at a light domain cleric for sure. You have bless, and you also have access to faerie fire (only cleric that gets it, druids get though too) which will will make your rogues kiss you on the lips if you stick it and give them juicy advantage for sneak attack.
Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
since everyone is suggesting druid i'd sawy that thematically the sheppherd druid from xanatars guide to everything is a good pick
also what is your ranger companion? is it like a snake or an wolf or something?, just curious
also do remember that your total spell slots when multiclassing is half your ranger level, rounded down plus your druid level, and that your highest level spell slot is based on your level in an individual class, ie an 5th level ranger only has 2nd level spell slots, no matter how many levels he has in any other classes, an 1st level druid can only prepare 1st level spells even if they have 2nd or even 3rd level spell slots

I didn't even think about druid and I love your idea about not telling them and just using it lol

Druid works. Stars druid is really cool, and I think it could work well.
