So I have read that strength based rangers don't do well for various reasons but I REALLY wanted to build a Rexxar (World of Warcraft) style character. This is only a concept at this point but half-orc, or full orc if DM allows, obviously. Beast Master Ranger, dual wielding battle axes with a few throwing axes for a mid-range action. Bear as a pet. How can I make this character viable without gimping him and anything else (for you WoW players) I can add in to match up with Rexxar? Thanks.
It wont be optimal, but it wont be bad either. UA Beastmaster Ranger up to 5th level while multiclassing into barbarian or fighter or both. Black bear as your companion. You'll need the dual wielder feat to use two battle axes.
I could add a few more suggestions, but I don't feel like writing a wall of text.
