I have an idea for a thematically pleasing rogue, a Scout (UA) Rogue who takes Magic Initiate (Wiz) for Find Familiar, Message, and Prestidigitation. (Patent Pending) And he would play as a very useful scout, his familiar being an Owl (Fly-by + Advantage on Perception checks) makes it so that he will both be lethal in combat (fly-by help for advantage on attacks) and as a scout (Taking the senses of his Owl). He would be able to relay messages silently, and when he goes on treks by himself he can light his own campfires with ease and snuff out lights and stuff. The only questions left are... what race is he and whats his backstory? Im going to put a poll for race and I want to hear from you guys if you have any interesting ideas for my super sneaky rogue.
Half-orc. No one would suspect him of something so clever.
It is also very different, arcane magic is not something you'd typically expect a half-orc to dip into. You could make a really engaging story around how they acquired their wizarding prowess.
I would go human, for the feat, (also I'm going to play this now I guess)

Wood elf (2024 rules) for druidcraft, longstrider and pass without trace at level 5. Magic initiate druid for thematic alignment and helpful cantrips/spells (guidance, message and goodberry).

Going Human-Variant seems like the logical choice because of gaining the feat at level one.

Variant Human for extra feat.
You can get Magic Initiate for more spells.
or
You can get Fey Touched (Misty Step + extra spell) or Shadow Touched (Invisibility + extra spell).

I like the sneaky Forest Gnome. Minor Illusion cantrip, Darkvision, and advantage on Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma saving throws.
