Playing my first round of D&D 5e ever and i'm loving it. Our Group started with some Runs in Shadowrun 5, which we also had good fun with. But due to a suggestion from one Member who DM's his own Campaigns we came to try the D&D world now.
We are now some Sessions in and just reached lvl 3 at the end of the last one. And i'm feeling a bit torn, about my choices now.
So to the Char. I'm playing a Tabaxi Rogue with the Urban Bounty Hunter Background, who was a Hunter in his Clan before it was wiped out.
Statblock was Point-Buy: Str 8 Dex 16 Con 12 Int 12 Wis 14 Char 14
I also allready talked with our DM, that i want to Multiclass as Warlock with lvl 4 or 5. So i will find some item in the next Sessions which talks me into a Hexblade Pact. Plan was to get to Warlock 3 for Pact of the Blade afterwards. Having a pocket dimension Weapon just appeals to me. Haven't decided if i'm mainly in Close Combat or Range also. Right now i'm jumping between close and range depending on enemy with Shortbow or Shortblade+Dagger.
With this in mind i'm swaying between two Archetypes at this moment, because of thematically and fun reasons.
1# Scout:
would fit thematically really nice with a Tabaxi who was a Clan Hunter
More Expertise / More Movement later
2# Arcane Trickster:
obviously more magic for shenanigans, Invis Mage Hand ^.^
More Spells and Slots
If someone could offer some alternate viewpoints to help me, would be much appreciated or perhaps even something i have overlooked entirely.
Personally I really like both of those subclasses, I would lean more on scout as i like the added movement. The Inquistive subclass in also very good for a hunter. Bonus action to look for hidden creatures or get sneak attack without having advantage. It is in Xanathar's guild to everything if you are looking for it.
Scout. I think that you should go to 5 rogue before anything else. Cunning action and ability score increase are super useful. Put your dex up to 18 with the increase. Then go warlock.

If your party has a Wizard that knows Mage Hand and has a familiar (the most common spell chosen by Rogues for their any school level 1 spell), Arcane Trickster is much less useful. If your party doesn't have a Wizard for Find Familiar, or a Bard, Sorcerer, or Wizard with Mage Hand, then those two abilities from the Arcane Trickster are going to be a lot more useful.
You also need to look at yourself and your DM and determine how useful the Minor Illusion cantrip will be. That's another very popular choice for Arcane Tricksters, and with a creative player and a permissive DM, it can be a fantastic spell. But if you're not the type of player that would instinctively try to use Minor Illusion to solve problems, or you have a DM that would not be likely to reward your efforts to use illusions to solve problems, then this spell becomes a lot less useful.
Thanks so far for your input. Right, Party Setup ^^; something i should propably also consider a bit in the decision.
We got a Human Wizard, a Dwarf Barbarian, a Dwarf Druid and a Gnome Artificer. I know our Wizard got Mage Hand and also Find Familiar, but hasn't used them much until now. Since we are not many Sessions in this could change. I think we can get our DM with alot of shenanigans he will happily agree with. I think we got him to Facepalm atleast once per Shadowrun run and now in the DnD sessions also. We allready got a speech from him about a Fireball Scroll and who is responsible if it is used for evil. User or Creater. We gonna string it through the whole Campaign :)
AIso if i would go AT, i think i wouldn't cast anything until i get my Warlock levels. Makes it in my head easier possible to RP the reason i had some kind of innate magic awakening (at spells). Atleast thats the stubborn plan in my head.
With your team setup and your multiclass consideration, I'd steer clear of Arcane Trickster. Most illusion and enchantment spells require saving throws, so you'd need good intelligence, then you'd need good charisma to play a warlock, and you have already dumped a bunch into dex - ironically, as a hexblade, dex becomes redundant past 14 (16 with medium armor master). That said, scout is always reliable. The mobility is good, and it dovetails well with the Tabaxi speed burst.
Have you considered Assassin? I wouldn't normally suggest it, but it's a really good fit for your character concept. Stash weapons in a pocket dimension, approach victim, summon weapons, quick murder, re-stash weapons and disappear. It's also the grimdarkiest rogue class, which, again, hexblade warlock...
