I'm a DM but I recently ran into a confusing problem I had a PC fighting an enemy and he got swallowed but then he was able to make it frightened of him i really didn't know how to work it but that's a story for another day what im wondering is for next time .
What do I do if an enemy ate a PC and gets frightened?
Swallowed conditions generally requires an amount of damage to be dealt in order for the creature to spit out the swallowed creature, fear doesn't cause damage, so that wouldn't happen. As well, it's impossible to run away from yourself I'd say that you'd be safe having it lose it's reaction for the duration at the very least. I'd also impose a modifier to attacks against the creature for the duration of the spell. Something like a +3 since the creature is afraid of something it can't see.
One thing to take into account as well, the creature swallowed is Restrained and Blinded, this means Somatic components of the spell are going to be difficult. On top of that it would be difficult to reach a component pouch/focus if it's not already in hand, so the material components might be unavailable. * Many DMs handwave arcane focus/components in general combat but they are necessary to cast a spell, so it's something to consider in this situation.
Frightened only does two things: gives disadvantage if the source is in sight, and can't move closer to it.
If the source of fear is swalloved, it is out of sight and no movement in any direction is going to be closer than it already is, so the frightened creature is free to act unhindered. At least until the swalloved creature manages to get out and scares the target once more.
Using the analogy of bad gas station food, and strictly from a thematic approach as RAW were already clarified, I might have the frog voluntarily sick up the "bad food".
I'd have the player do a con check, take 4d4 to 4d6 necrotic damage or half as much on a save. The reasoning would be dealing with the bile and other disgusting nastiness associated with throw up, plus you could have some additional damage from breathing the noxious fumes. If the damage doesn't seem right, adjust it up or down as you see fit, since I was just spitballing it.

I am one with the Force. The Force is with me.
How did they manage to make the creature frightened of them?
Perhaps the same way that bad gas station food can frighten people on a long road trip?

Ok thanks now if I were to make it voluntary throw up should I make it do a like a con check to see if it succeeds?
