Hey all, I'm reaaaaaaaally trying to find a rule somewhere official (not Crawford's twiter thread) that confirms the following:
a Monk 5 / sorcerer 9 CAN:
-Attack with a sword in one hand (She's proficient) - Attack with a gun in the other hand (she's prof with the gunner feat) - and crucially that Two handed fighting rules do not apply because she is using the extra attack feature she gets from monk to do the above.
I can't seem to find official RAW proof, or clear and concise words to clearly enough express the difference between two weapon fighting (bonus action style) with limitations vs two attack actions that dont need to be both melee, or both light resulting from the extra attack feature to my group.
Don’t call it “two attack actions,” because that’s not what you’re describing. One Attack allows you to make one (or more, with Extra Attack feature) weapon attack(s).
I don’t think you’ll find language that says “you can use a different type weapon for each attack you make as part of a single Attack,” though that would be nice (because it’s true). Instead, point to the fact that nothing says you CANT, or that you must commit to a single weapon when taking that action.
You generally can attack with a weapon you’re wielding when you make a weapon attack. With Extra Attack, you can make more than one weapon attack per Attack. Nothing says those attacks must be with the same weapon.
What they said. You can do it, because all it says is you can make 2 attacks and doesn't put any restrictions on those attacks.
It doesn't say you have to use the same weapon twice, so you don't.
It doesn't say using different weapons removes damage modifiers, so it doesn't. (On this note, two weapon fighting bonus action is actually a specific exception to the general rule of adding ability mod to weapon damage. Every weapon attack will add mod to damage unless something says otherwise).
The Sage Advice Compendium, which provides official rulings on rule interpretations, explicitly discusses using two or more weapons with the Extra Attack feature. It’s in the last entry in the combat section, which contrasts this with the bonus action two weapon fighting rules.

I'm going to make this way harder than it needs to be.
Nothing in the wording of the Monk Extra Attack ability makes any reference to bonus actions, or restricts what you can use for your second attack.
It simply allows you to attack twice, so you can attack twice with the same weapon, or once with two different weapons that you are wielding.
