Someone brought up this combo, and I looked for a ruling on it. What I found is an old thread, where the consensus seemed to be that it works. But my interpretation is that it does NOT; however, I've been wrong before, so am I wrong here?
For clarity, Psychic Blades are a Soulknife Rogue feature. Here is an excerpt:
"You can manifest your psionic power as shimmering blades of psychic energy. Whenever you take the Attack action, you can manifest a psychic blade from your free hand and make the attack with that blade."
Here is a Sage Advice Compendium ruling on using extra attack with Booming Blade or Greenflame Blade
Can you use green-flame blade and booming blade with Extra Attack, opportunity attacks, Sneak Attack, and other weapon attack options?
Introduced in the Sword Coast Adventurer’s Guide , the green-flame blade and booming blade spells pose a number of questions, because they each do something unusual: require you to make a melee attack with a weapon as part of the spell’s casting.
First, each of these spells involves a normal melee weapon attack, not a spell attack, so you use whatever ability modifier you normally use with the weapon. (A spell tells you if it includes a spell attack, and neither of these spells do.) For example, if you use a longsword with green-flame blade, you use your Strength modifier for the weapon’s attack and damage rolls.
---->Second, neither green-flame blade nor booming blade works with Extra Attack or any other feature that requires theAttack action. Like other spells, these cantrips require the Cast a Spell action, not the Attack action, and they can’t be used to make an opportunity attack, unless a special feature allows you to do so.
Booming blade is the Cast a Spell action which also requires a melee weapon attack as the material component. This will trigger any abilities that require making a melee weapon attack, or a weapon attack but it will not trigger abilities that require the character to take the Attack action.
The psychic blades bonus action requires the character to take the Attack action in order to trigger the bonus action availability.
Two weapon fighting also requires the character to take the Attack action in order to trigger the bonus action attack.
"TWO-WEAPON FIGHTING When you take the Attack action and attack with a light melee weapon that you're holding in one hand, you can use a bonus action to attack with a different light melee weapon that you're holding in the other hand."
Exactly the same wording and you can not use Two weapon fighting with casting booming blade either. So, I agree with you :) ... No, the Psychic blades rogue can't use the bonus action attack if they use the Cast a Spell action to cast BB or GFB.
Yeah, I don't see how to make this work without also being a 6th level Bladesinger.
I don't even think it works there, either. Psychic Blades still require the normal attack action. You would just be able to booming blade then make a normal weapon attack, which incidentally is great.
I don't see it that way. Class features are almost always written from a single-classed perspective and Soulknives lack any features that would create exceptions to the Attack action, so it's perfectly natural for Psychic Blades to be written under the assumption you have one attack.
It's similar to how single-target spells aren't written to account for potentially being twinned (e.g. Haste refers to "the target") but that doesn't preclude you from twinning them. Trying to account for things like Twinned Spell is potentially distracting or confusing, and the game (or DM) can always add new exceptions in the future, so it's generally better to write things based on how they normally operate.
The "whenever" bit of Psychic Blades suggests to me that if you did have multiple attacks, it'd still work. That's just my opinion though.
There's no such thing as "the normal attack action" versus "the Extra Attack attack action." There's just the Attack action, which may be benefiting from one or more features modifying its normal rules. I see why you're making that argument though, the recent threads where folks have argued that an Attack where you only make one melee attack is somehow a different type of Attack that is not benefiting from your Extra Attack feature leads inevitably to this sort of (incorrect) thinking that you have multiple different "types" of Attack actions instead of just one.

Who said anything about an "extra attack attack action"? I don't know what you're responding to here.
Just to be clear, they are referencing another thread where they held one position and got responses from people (me among them) with different positions about the attack action. The statement above doesn't really express my position there, but maybe C_C thinks it does, or maybe it is directed at some of the other positions others held in that thread. On second thought, maybe it is actually directed at what SeanJP really did say.
Edit2: maybe I did misunderstand a bit. SeanJP seems to be under the impression that there is a "normal attack action." No. Extra attack modifies the attack action. If you use extra attack, you have necessarily used the attack action.

The wording is deliberate, as "Attack Action" is a specific type of action outlined in the PHB, just as the "Cast a Spell" is. Booming Blade and Greenflame Blade fall under the latter category (as Sage Advice explained).
Notice the wording of the Fighter's Extra Attack feature:
Extra Attack
Beginning at 5th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn.
"Attack Action" and Sage Advice says you cannot use it with BB or GFB because you did not take the Attack action, you took the Cast a Spell action.
Now look at Divine Smite for the Paladin:
Divine Smite
Starting at 2nd level, when you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack, you can expend one spell slot to deal radiant damage to the target, in addition to the weapon’s damage. The extra damage is 2d8 for a 1st-level spell slot, plus 1d8 for each spell level higher than 1st, to a maximum of 5d8. The damage increases by 1d8 if the target is an undead or a fiend, to a maximum of 6d8.
It does NOT say you must take the "Attack Action" - just that you need to hit the creature with a melee weapon attack. You can apply Divine Smite to a BB/GFB attack.
Looks like there are two separate questions in this thread:
Can I use Psychic Blade with Extra Attack?
Can I use Psychic Blade with Booming Blade/GFB somehow?
I think these two questions got mixed up in this thread because someone mentioned Bladesinger's Extra Attack feature.
For the first question, it's pretty clear: When you use the Attack action, you can use the blade. It's probably intended for you to use PB on as many attacks as you get with that action. This would then trigger the requirements for the bonus action attack with the off-hand blade.
The second question is a bit murkier. Without considering Bladesinger, BB/GFB etc require you to attack with a weapon as part of the Cast a Spell action. So the Psychic Blade can't be used in conjunction with BB/GFB.
However Bladesinger 6 allows you to substitute a Cantrip during the Attack action for one of your attacks. This does open up the possibility of attacking with a Psychic Blade as an Attack, then using BB/GFB as a cantrip (but here's where it gets murkier -- does the Blade hang around for you to attack with it, or do you need another weapon ?). Then, since you've attacked with the Psychic Blade using an attack, this triggers your off-hand Psychic blade.
As an aside: I'm at a loss for understanding the game-design intent behind the "when you take the Attack action" restriction on the Psychic Blades. Were they concerned about OA abuse? Out of Combat abuse? I don't get it.

It definitely isn't intended to do that.
You can manifest your psionic power as shimmering blades of psychic energy. Whenever you take the Attack action, you can manifest a psychic blade from your free hand and make the attack with that blade. This magic blade is a simple melee weapon with the finesse and thrown properties. It has a normal range of 60 feet and no long range, and on a hit, it deals psychic damage equal to 1d6 plus the ability modifier you used for the attack roll. The blade vanishes immediately after it hits or misses its target, and it leaves no mark on its target if it deals damage.
After you attack with the blade, you can make a melee or ranged weapon attack with a second psychic blade as a bonus action on the same turn, provided your other hand is free to create it. The damage die of this bonus attack is 1d4, instead of 1d6.
You create one (1) PB with the Attack action, which you can use to make one (1) weapon attack before it vanishes. Doing so qualifies you to later create one (1) more PB in your offhand as a Bonus Action (if it was empty when that first attack was made), which you in turn can use to make one (1) weapon attack before it vanishes as part of that same Bonus Action. There's no reading of Soulknife's features that would give one the impression you can create as many PBs as you have attacks to made during the Attack action.
Without considering Bladesinger, BB/GFB etc require you to attack with a weapon as part of the Cast a Spell action. So the Psychic Blade can't be used in conjunction with BB/GFB.
Agreed. Spells are ordinarily cast with [Tooltip Not Found]. [Tooltip Not Found] is not Attack. PB's are created when you take Attack.
However Bladesinger 6 allows you to substitute a Cantrip during the Attack action for one of your attacks. Agree with the Blue: a Bladesinger 6 is the only way to cast Booming Blade with the Attack action rather than the [Tooltip Not Found] action. PB triggers to create a PB when taking the Attack action. But you've correctly noted that, because a PB is not a weapon with a cost of 1 sp, you're going to have to use PB on your non-BB weapon attack anyway.
Disagree with the red: nothing is murky about this at all. The PB does not hang around, it vanishes when the attack roll is completed. And even if it did hang around, it is not a suitable component with which to make the BB-attack.

The thread pertains to using the Soulknife's bonus action Psychic Blade attack as a bonus action after using BB or GFB. But here's an interesting point that maybe you guys are talking about...
At Level 6 Bladesinger multi-classed with Soulknife Rogue, can you Attack - Booming Blade Attack - Psychic Blades bonus action Attack? By the wording I would say yes.
Extra Attack
6th-level Bladesinging feature
You can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn. Moreover, you can cast one of your cantrips in place of one of those attacks.
You took the Attack action on your turn. You satisfied the requirement for the Psychic Blade bonus action attack.

I don't even think it works there, either. Psychic Blades still require the normal attack action. You would just be able to booming blade then make a normal weapon attack, which incidentally is great.

You cannot just cast Booming Blade and then follow it up with a Psychic Blade bonus action attack.
This is different at Level 6 Bladesinger, because the Bladesinger's extra attack lets you take the Attack action *and* cast Booming Blade (or any cantrip for that matter) as a second attack.
But let's say your Bladesinger level is 1-5 (you only get one attack), or you're just a Soulknife with magic initiate. Casting BB or GFB required you to take the Cast a Spell action, so you cannot use Psychic Blades as a bonus action attack.

Nope. PB say that if you take the attack action you can use a PB to make the attack. And if you have used a PB to attack you can then use another to do the bonus action attack. Just taking the attack action isn't enough.
So you could take the attack action and (if you have extra attack) do a BB attack and then a PB attack and then another PB attack with the bonus action. But you can't just do a BB attack and then do a PB bonus action attack, even if you do the BB attack through the blade singer extra attack.
That's a good point. A Bladesinger 6/Battlemaster 3/Soul Knife 3 could not take the Attack action, use on of their attack-slots for Commander's Strike, one for Booming Blade, and then hope to still make a bonus action PB attack. Because they need to make an Attack PB to qualify for a Bonus PB.
It does NOT say your attack has to be with Psychic Blades to get the PB bonus action attack.

Yeah, you're right. I misread it. And I don't see a way around it at level 6 Bladesinger, either. You have to use a physical weapon to use Booming blade, so you can't use Pyschic Blades as your second attack unless you drop it (which is dumb), but technically that's a way, unless I'm overlooking something.

Agreed. Spells are ordinarily cast with [Tooltip Not Found]. [Tooltip Not Found] is not Attack. PB's are created when you take Attack.
