I will do a 5/15 Sorcerer/Ranger build, and im confused with how ill so my multiclass spells, someone please explain, And will all spells cap at 5th lvl bcos of the ranger
Spell Slots. You determine your available spell slots by adding together all your levels in the bard, cleric, druid, sorcerer, and wizard classes, half your levels (rounded down) in the paladin and ranger classes, and a third of your fighter or rogue levels (rounded down) if you have the Eldritch Knight or the Arcane Trickster feature. Use this total to determine your spell slots by consulting the Multiclass Spellcaster table.
So your build would have 5 + 15/2 = 5 + 7 = 12 levels as spellcaster meaning that you'd max out at a 6th level spell slot. [4*1st, 3*2nd, 3*3rd, 3*4th, 2*5th, 1*6th]
But you also need to remember that your spells known comes from each class separately.
If you have more than one spellcasting class, this table might give you spell slots of a level that is higher than the spells you know or can prepare. You can use those slots, but only to cast your lower-level spells. If a lower-level spell that you cast, like burning hands, has an enhanced effect when cast using a higher-level slot, you can use the enhanced effect, even though you don’t have any spells of that higher level.
So you would only know Sorcerer spells at max 3rd level and Ranger spells at max 4th level. Lots of room to upcast though.
You learn spells for each class as if that class was your only class. So a L5 Sorcerer, L4 Ranger would know the spells of a L5 Sorcerer, and the spells of a L4 ranger.
Your Spell Slots are determined by a chart in the PHB. If you look at the Sorcerer class's chart for spell slots of each level, add your Sorcerer levels to 1/2 (rounded down) of your Ranger levels, to determine which caster level you look at on the chart. So a L5 Sorcerer, L4 Ranger would have the spell slots equal to a L7 Sorcerer (one 4th level spell slot, even though you only know up to L3 Sorcerer spells, and L1 Ranger spells).
Note: You will have spell slots higher than the highest level spell you know. These higher spell slots can be used to upcast the lower-level spells you know.
If you reach L20, with Sorcerer 5, Ranger 15, you will have the spells known of a L5 Sorcerer and a L15 Ranger, and the same array of spell slots as a L12 Sorcerer, which means you'll have one 6th level spell slot, but your highest level spells known will be L5 Ranger spells.
So from lvls 1-5 i use the normal spell table, then when i MC into ranger i follow the MC spell table until i max at 20? And with my spells known can i learn spells of both as a lvl up or only the class im currently in? And does taht mean i have no 4th lvl sorcerer spells and but i can learn lvl1+ ranger spells?

For spells known you get your spells from each class seperately.
If you take 5 levels in sorcerer first, then your sorcerer spells are fixed from level 5 as you do not gain a class in sorcerer after that. When you reach 7th level (Sorcerer 5/Ranger 2) you learn your first ranger spells (2 at 1st level). At 8th level (Sorcerer 5 / Ranger 3) you learn another 1st level ranger spell and possibly a one from your subclass. You also have the option to swap one of the ranger spells you learnt at level 7 for another first level spell At 9th level you get your first 4th level spell slots but you only know spells up to 3rd level but you can use your 4th level slot to upcast any spell you know at 10th Level (Sorcerer 5/Ranger 5) you can get to earn your first 2nd level ranger spell, you can also swap one of your ranger spells for another so you can know 2 second level ranger spells (3 if your subclass gives you another)
By the time you get to sorcerer 5/ Ranger 15 You will still have the sorcerer spells you knew at level 5 (the highest being 3rd level) and you will know 9 ranger spells (plus any from your subclass) which will be a maximum of level 4. Your highest spell slot will be level 6.

You will only learn Sorcerer spells when you gain a level in Sorcerer and only learn Ranger spells when you gain a level in Ranger.
So if you plan to take 5 levels of Sorcerer first and then go for 15 levels of Ranger then you would only get Sorcerer spells for the first 5 levels (up to a max of 3rd level spells) and then you would only get Ranger spells for the rest of your levels (up to a max of 4th level spells). Also note that which class you learn a spell from matters for which ability modifier you use as your spellcasting ability (charisma for Sorcerer spells and wisdom for Ranger spells) when casting that spell.
