Actually, it seems that even unarmed strikes are eligible for smite spells, though not for Divine Smite. If you want to know if Divine Smite works on Leonin claws, though, then the Sage Advice Compendium has the answers you're looking for.
Things designated as weapons by the rules, including natural weapons, are indeed weapons. In contrast, unarmed strikes are not weapons. They are something you do with an unarmed part of your body.
Since the Leonin's claws are considered natural weapons, they are also weapons, and therefore are eligible for Divine Smite as well as smite spells.

Sorry if this has been asked before, I just wondering if (rules as written) smite spells can be used with a Leonin's claw attacks?
the interaction isn't clear from the description of the claws. They are referred to as both weapons and unarmed strikes.
Anyone with better game knowledge have an answer?
