Hi guys! I want to know the ruling on concentrating spells when you are going out of the spell's range (with the exception of specified description on certain spells like Witch Bolt) and is there any reliable info about that ruling other than Sage Advice. Do you break concentration when you go out of the spell's range on the majority of spells? Thanks.
As far as I know, you don't even need to be on the same plane of existence to maintain concentration on a spell.
PHB p203
Normal activity, such as moving and attacking, doesn't interfere with concentration. The following factors can break concentration: - Casting another spell that requires concentration. - Taking damage. - Being incapacitated or killed.
- Environmental factors as decided by the DM. (e.g. pounding waves while being tossed around on a ship in a storm)
Those are all the factors affecting concentration. Range is not a factor. Being on the same plane is not a factor.
The sugggestion spell gives a good example. It is a concentration spell up to 8 hours and you can suggest to a creature to take a certain course of action but there is no requirement to keep the target of the spell within a certain range in order for it to be effective. You can make a suggestion and go along your merry way while concentrating on the spell and the target will have to take the action suggested if the triggering situation occurs no matter where they are.

Once a spell is cast, its effects aren't limited by range unless the spell says otherwise. The concentration rules don't say a concentration spell ends if its target leaves the spell's range.
