In the new dm guide it says making a common magic item takes 5 days of 8 hours of work. It also says if its consumable it take halve the time does this mean it takes
- 2 days of 8 hours and 1 day of 4 hours
-5 days of 4 hours
or something entirely different this gets even more confusing say your an alchemist artificer making a potion would it take
-1 day of 8 hours and 1 day of 2 hours
-5 days of 2 hours
or again something different. I’ve looked around and can’t find anything on how it’s halved. This is only speaking of common items since there the most likely to matter if your trying to fit them in during adventuring days potentially.
I'd halve days, and as mentioned in the DMG, "For each day of crafting, you must work for 8 hours."
If there aren't more full "8 hours" to work, then you'd finish on the last day by working the remaining hours.
So if I'm not understanding you wrong, your first options are fine to me: "2 days of 8 hours and 1 day of 4 hours", and "1 day of 8 hours and 1 day of 2 hours".
EDIT: I think you could round the days down if that's simpler.

Ok thanks it sounds like you understood correctly.
I added a modification to my previous reply, because another option could be to round down the number of days when you divide: Round Down.
