RAW: Reliable Talent: Whenever you make an ability check that lets you add your proficiency bonus, you can treat a d20 roll of 9 or lower as a 10.
How would this affect the dreaded Nat 1 for such checks? I may have a higher-level Rogue in my game later on and his dice luck is not so good...
Nat 1 and Nat 20 have no special significance for abilty checks. The rule of critical fails and successes only applies to Attack rolls and nothing else. For abilty checks and saving throws you can stll succeed with a Nat 1 on a die if your bonuses are high enough and the DC is low enough.
With reliable talent if you roll a 1 when making an ability check in which you're proficient you treat it as if you rolled a 10.

I had not considered this. This would make Rogues much more survivable.
Death saving throws are not ability checks nor are they ability saving throws. They're a special type of saving throw and reliable talent has no affect on them.
TexasDevin is right though in that they are subject to Critical Fail (a Nat 1 is 2 fails) and Critical Success (a Nat 20 means to stabilise and awaken with 1 HP).

There is an optional rule that attaches special effects to failures on a natural 1 and successes on a natural 20. But that optional rule does not make natural 1s and 20s into automatic failures and successes. It only affects what happens when you roll a 1 that also fails, or a 20 that also succeeds.
