I am a level 7 Sorcerer. I now have access to the Polymorph spell. Just turned level 7 at end of session tonight. Is there an expanded list of beasts I can polymorph myself or a companion into? I am also getting confused on challege rating vs character level and how it translates with the Polymorph spell. Like, can I polymorph into a T-rex or a Gaint Ape at level 7? What else can I poly into? Thank you.
as the Polymorph spell states, you can transform into any creature with a CR equal to, or less than the target's level.
CR is listed on all official published monsters.
The D&D Beyond monster listings includes a filter that allows you to enter specific CR and other options, to help you find the creature you want, like a Stone Giant.
A Tyrannosaurus Rex is CR 8, so the target of the polymorph spell needs to be level 8 or higher for it to work.
