So our party has picked up a frog in our campaign, and it's been our mascot. Our DM is weirded out that we're keeping him around this long, but there's no problem with him here. So, my character is a ranger. I didn't spec into the archetype that allows an animal companion, so while I totally wreck shit, I have no animal friend. I've been told that we can't add any more pets because we're technically travelling with two, aaaaaand you see where this is going, yeah?
How do I turn this baby boy into just the biggest ****in boy. Lay some mechanics I can play around with or seek out to make this dream a reality.
You don't need raw stats to have a pet or three, as long as you don't abuse it (or annoy the DM with it, I suppose >.> ), but if you have to use them, I'd suggest finding an agate worth 1000gp and a friendly bard or druid (the latter is much more likely to have it), and ask them to cast Awaken to the courageous amphibian.
Don't expect to ride it into battle or anything, but you'll be able to hold a conversation with it and have it actually be a companion that can add a lot of depth (and hilarity) to your party's interactions.
Just keep it away from princesses, or you may find yourselves drawn into an unforeseen side quest.
Enlarge/Reduce can make the frog bigger... but it'll still only go from Tiny to Small, not real Big Boi Giant Frog proportions. The short answer is that that's the only thing that 100% definitely works, but surely if we throw a ridiculous enough pile of gold and party resources at the problem with an overly complicated solution, your DM would play ball?
Awakened Frog Druid
If your DM is open to using Monsters With Class option, I think that Awakening the frog is a good first step. Lil Buddy can then start working towards accumulating some Druid class levels so that he can Wild Shape into a bigger version of himself for longer and longer stretches of time. A "classic" approach to enhancing animal friends!
Polymorph Shenanigans
Polymorph or True Polymorph can turn your frog into anything with a lower CR, regardless of size or type... but your tiny guy probably needs to be Awakened and given a class level first so that his CR will be at or above 1/4 to make that a valid transformation. That's kind of a dick move, because once he's polymorphed, he'll lose his new-found sentience and get Giant Frog mental stats! If you don't really love your frog, I suppose you could stop here... but lets try to find a way to let him keep his beach body, while getting his mind back?
My theory is that once Polymorphed you could then Clone the polymorphed frog-to-Giant Frog to grow a new true Giant Frog body, which the tiny frog's soul would be linked to, but which would be "physically identical to the original" giant frog body that you cast this on. Once clone-Giant Frog is matured, you then dispel the True Polymorph effect, allowing lil bud to go back to being an Awakened level 1 Frog Druid with sentience... and then step on him. His Awakened personality and class levels should then merge with the Giant Frog body that's waiting for him, giving him a Big Boi body and a Smart Boi mind? Maybe not though, since the mental stuff is part of the same sentence as the physical stuff in the spell description... you'd have to lean a little heavy on arguing that the "soul" that returns is the repository of mental abilities and class features, your mileage may vary. If this trick works, heck, you can even make him a Froghemoth Druid if you pump enough class levels into him!
Trust the Gods
True Resurrection is weird, because it can "provide a new body if the original no longer exists, but doesn't explicitly require that it be the same sort of body the creature had before death. Your DM would be well within their right to interpret it that way and just give you a very expensive new Frog… but hey, if it was my group, and they'd just spent 25,000 gp to resurrect a squished frog, I'd let them upgrade him a little!
A far less expensive option is to have a 10th level cleric request Divine Intervention, either to recreate the effect of True Resurrection without a gp cost, or to just straight up transform the amphibian. A DM that is tired of your bullshit is unlikely to oblige :)
Consult an Attorney
If you really want to risk a TPK to transform the frog, you could always try casting Wish? You better be damn certain how you want to word your request though, lest you end up giving DM room to somehow pull some weird bullshit that tears apart space and time in the process :p

I'm going to make this way harder than it needs to be.
