Still quite a new player, and it’s first time I have come across this...
All the magic users in the party just suddenly collapsed, most of them were violently sick then went unconscious. The other party members have been unable to rouse them.
Now I know it must me an effect...or a spell used against them...but how do I work out what has happened and more importantly how to reverse it? Any ideas appreciated. Thanks in advance
Is this effect only present on your party, or is affecting all magic users? What about inherently magical creatures? Were there any magic effects active at the time in the area (Mage Hand, an Illusion, an sort of persistent or Concentration effect, etc)? Did anything happen to those spells/effects? Is it isolated to an area, or is it everywhere? Did it coincide with anything, or did it just suddenly happen?
Your DM is obviously planning something. This is not an off the shelf, out of the book, occurrence.
Try leaving the area. Wait some time, including several long and short rests to see if the effect wears off with time. Do their spell books if any still contain their spells? Do magic items still function normally? Does it effect spell casters other than wizards? If so which ones? Each magic using class gets its magic in different ways from different sources. Are Warlock cut off from their Patrons? What about Clerics? Seek out high level magic using NPCs and get their opinion.
Multiclass into non-magic using classes until the magic comes back.
A cantrip is a spell that can be cast at will, without using a spell slot and without being prepared in advance. Repeated practice has fixed the spell in the caster's mind and infused the caster with the magic needed to produce the effect over and over. A cantrip's spell level is 0.
One party member was out hunting...that person must have rolled higher on constitution as they are the only one that did not go unconscious....however have lost all use of both spells and cantrips. They fell over and felt nauseous, got back up and made it back to camp but felt weak and lightheaded
The other 3 party members affected were at camp with 2 others (non magic users), they all suddenly threw up and went unconscious. The 2 non magic users didn’t know what was happening. They tried healing potions but no effect
thank you, now say a fire genasi has a cantrip, but this genasi is level 16. does the cantrip that it know at level 1 level up with the character?
Yes. Cantrips that can increase will increase by character level. Typically increases occur at 5th, 11th and 17th levels. Not all cantrips increase, you will need to check the text of the cantrip.

Skills to try: perception, investigation, medicine, and arcana. Not necessarily in that order.

what is a cantrip?

Off topic, but...
https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/basic-rules/spellcasting#Cantrips
They are low effort spells that require no character resources.
If you have other off topic questions, create a new tread to ask them in.
It suddenly happened.
One party member was out hunting...that person must have rolled higher on constitution as they are the only one that did not go unconscious....however have lost all use of both spells and cantrips. They fell over and felt nauseous, got back up and made it back to camp but felt weak and lightheaded

There’s a Cleric a Bard a Ranger and a Sorcerer but no Wizard
At the moment there are no NPC’s that know about magic, will have to travel to a nearby town to find some
