Hi! I was planning on playing a Druid (2)/ ranger (x) character who uses some wild shape to turn into a Leopard for scouting and Stealth and so... another player said that i could better play a weretiger (or wereleopard and just use tiger stats...). The GM has some doubts and I also don’t know how much stronger you become and what is the drawback... we are going to play ravenloft, so the setting fits.... anybody has some insights?? Thanks!!
You can find a description for weretiger lycanthropy in MM.
A character who becomes a lycanthrope retains his or her statistics except as specified by lycanthrope type. The character gains the lycanthrope’s speeds in nonhumanoid form, damage immunities, traits, and actions that don’t involve equipment. The character is proficient with the lycanthrope’s natural attacks, such as its bite or claws, which deal damage as shown in the lycanthrope’s statistics. The character can’t speak while in animal form.
...
Weretiger. The character gains a Strength of 17 if his or her score isn’t already higher. Attack and damage rolls for the natural weapons are based on Strength. For the Pounce trait, the DC is 8 + the character’s proficiency bonus + Strength modifier.
The natural weapons and feature descriptions are in the monster stat block. I actually don't think weretigers are a good fit for ravenloft, maybe werewolves and werebats. But it is up to the DM.
There is practically no disadvantage to being a lycanthrope if the DM doesn't take control of the character for at least the moon forced transformations. For advantages, immunity to nonmagical physical attacks is pretty overwhelming.
The drawback is that some of the time the GM takes your character off you. They do horrible things (it is a curse, after all, and in Ravenloft is probably worse than normal).
Then they give your character back to you and say something like, "You wake up in a ditch, cold, wet, covered in blood. Someone else's blood."
