OK long story short, I lost a battle with an ID. So the question is how do I get myself back into my own head and the ID OUT!! Some are suggesting that only a high-level wish will do it (phased VERY carefully of course), some say a reincarnation spell might do it (though it is a toss-up what I would be after that), some are telling me just jump in front of a big bad Boss and roll up a new level 1 character (hey I am a 12 level sorcerer that hurts!)
This is the reason Intellect Devourers are a nightmare for such a low CR. The CR calculation is based mainly off effective dpr and hit points so it fails if the creature has a "kill-you-deader-then-dead" power well beyond their other stats.
As a DM I've kinda fudged this to say the devourer merely "posseses" your brain in the short term (until they've had enough time to psychically and physically munch the brain). So if you can expel it via magic or bringing the possessed PC to 0 hit points in the same battle then the PC is fine(ish), at least after a bit of healing.
Talk to your DM. If he's a good DM they'll give you or your group an option. Maybe a quest to get back your real self or maybe just the right kind of spell.
You'll need to talk to the other players and to the DM to ask if they can go on a quest for the macguffin which can do Wish, or perhaps there is a river of death where things go when eaten and you need to quest into the underworld to go brain-fishing.
At the end of the day, this will come down to asking the DM what you can find to help with it.
By the sounds of you rolling up a level 1 character, this is a very high stakes game (most games of 5e have you roll up characters of matching level to the other characters) so be prepared for the consequences of losing this fight to be losing the character.

Does anyone with some cool Hail Gygax moves?
Bad news… you really need a wish.
You can drive the nasty thing out with a protection from evil and good spell, but then the body dies in 6 seconds, which is not enough time to regenerate a brain. It can be raised using resurrection or true resurrection (but not with raise dead). As you mention, reincarnate is also an option here, but then the gods only know what you'll come back as.

You need a wish, or a wish-type-macguffin.
