I am building a new campaign and one of my players would like to play the Beast Master subclass for his Ranger. However, even though the check box is marked to use 2014 rules, they do not get the option to choose the Beast Master subclass. Can someone explain this?
To avoid overlooking the obvious: do they or if this is a content-sharing campaign someone in the group have the 2014 PHB? The 2014 Basic Rules only included the Hunter subclass, so someone somewhere in the group has to own the subclass/book for the player to use it on Beyond.

It's possible they've chosen the 2024 version of the Ranger class without owning the 2024 PHB. They need to use the 2014 ("Legacy") version of the class instead.
Keep in mind that there is no "check box to use 2014 rules". The "Legacy Rules" checkbox just means that content from the 2014 PHB and DMG will be available as options. You have to actually select those options instead of the 2024 ones.

They’ve changed the name of the checkbox, but they haven’t changed what it does, which is still as I described.

No, there are now two separate checkboxes. One for 2014 rules and one for Legacy. The change log explains the difference as well as each checkbox now has a description explaining what they are for.

I apologize if I haven’t been clear. My point is that none of these checkboxes mean “use the 2014 rules and not the 2024 rules”. None of them prevent you from selecting the 2024 version of a class when you want the 2014 one.
