Not sure if this exists but I thought it was a fun idea!
What was your first D&D character's story/backstory?
I'll start:
I had a half-elf draconic sorcerer and I'm like 90% sure his name was Zylynor. He was pretty moody bc I made him as a freshman in high school but he had some cool traits. I retired him at like 8th level bc the campaign I played him in died out but basically, he served as comic relief and threw out some lightning spells whenever people annoyed him.
He owned a tower in the elemental plane of air, and ended up getting sucked into the feywild with some random ppl who broke in during a fight, and that's kinda how he got started as a character.
I didn't really know how to write a backstory but I thought it was pretty good
If this already exists then I can delete this and post there but in my limited exploration of this forum I haven't seen it.

I play a warlock who is also a blacksmith who is also Irish on Mondays
I got into d&d when I was in middle school and my first D&D character was a tiefling rogue named Void. 11 year old me just wanted to fight stuff and roll dice and be cool but man, I ended up being basically a murderhobo.

XD it do be like that sometimes, my brother used to be a HUGE murderhobo to the point that it derailed the DMs plans for the campaign
but void sounds like an awesome character! do you remember what subclass you gave them?
I believe it was arcane trickster. Unfortunately (or rather, fortunately for the DMs lol) I ended up scrapping the character. I didn't have a dedicated campaign but rather played at my local game store and hopped around doing oneshots ran by various people. Eventually I met some friends there and started to run a campaign that ran on for about two years.

Oh. I totally went way overboard with mine. So much that I can't remember a lot of it. (AD&D) I had pretty much written a novel about my character.
So, I guess it was a good thing that the DM was a railroading chump that used killboxes to keep everyone on his story. The first thing I learned in D&D storymaking is how making it "my" story was an awful thing after being on the receiving end of someone else's "my" story - and also, quickly learned why level 1s shouldn't have amazing backstories unless there's a good reason for being a lowly level 1 (such as power stolen from the greatest sorcerer in the land as in NPC D&D).
As best as I can remember that ill-fated character, he was a short, Human rogue of Chaotic Neutral alignment. He ran afoul of some tyrant king with the king's only child, his daughter. If he hadn't learned his lesson about messing around with royalty, he leveraged his acquaintance with the princess to steal some magic item (can't remember) from the King to give to the resistance. The resistance successfully rebelled against the king, killing the whole royal family all the way down to the loosely-related barons, situating themselves as the new rules - becoming a cabal of tyrants using the same magics that the former tyrant kind used. The princess was executed along with the rest. My rogue was exiled despite his involvement in overthrowing the king due to his association with the late princess.
This rogue stole a highly guarded artifact and kicked off a revolution that ended up worse than the tyrant... and had trouble against a couple of kobolds and never succeeded in picking any lock.
Yeah. No more level 1 "heroes" for me after that. The most "heroic" I've done since are amnesiacs - whose heroisms were totally up to the DMs, not me.

Dang, that's wild. It's an awesome backstory for sure though! Hopefully, You'll get another opportunity to write a great backstory for a character again.
I tend to write a lot for my characters in general, mostly if follows a formula like; normal life > something goes wrong > supernatural/life-changing event > desire to learn more/change the world.
Also, Railroading really sucks, especially when the DM uses it all the time. I feel like some DMs can use it effectively, and if you don't even know you're being railroaded then it's not much of a problem, but some DMs just say "no you can't go there, I put you here instead" and it just sucks.
I thought your characters' story was really cool!

Also, it's super cool that you've been playing since you were 7! I had to reread your post to make sure I hadn't read it wrong.

I started out by making a Tiefling warlock of the demogorgon, thinking it was the stranger things version.
Just like how my original campaign revolved around demons...
I had very unconventional first choices.
Yikes XD.
I always worry my character's going to somehow align themself with the bad guys since my brother made a Dragonborn Bard for a Hoard of the Dragon Queen campaign.
But not going to lie that Character sounds like it would be so fun to play! I love stranger things and now I kinda want to play something like that haha (even if it's not the same demogorgon).

It was depressing.
Three deserts, a demon and cultist infested mountain, a lava river, a haunted castle, a village constantly under attack from undeads, and a random forest.
