I am looking for feedback on a character Idea, I am not sure about the lore and I am piecing it together from what I could find online. I Imagine this character starting off as a Hexblade warlock. Pact of the chain. (My familiar appears as a Raven and is my connection to herself, she does not talk to me directly). As I progress my devotion to the shadow grows slowly changing me. (Slowly being relative, I eyeblink to an elf) I would then Multi class into a Shadow Sorcerer as her power manifests in me making me a better tool to serve. Any feedback would be helpful.
I am the devoted servant of my lady, the Raven Queen. I see the look of horror and revulsion in your eyes and I find it amusing. Perhaps it is a matter of perspective, perhaps not. The Raven queen is not evil.
My Lady was an elf in an age where humans were still in their infancy and The Sundering of the elven races was still in question. Mythals were if not common then not unknown either. My Lady was a sorceress of power and was chosen to try and unify the elven races through negotiation with Cornellian and Loth. In this she was briefly successful in a very untended way.
The Raven Queen was betrayed. Some of the Wizards involved in the ritual to elevate my lady choose to siphon off power for their own uses. This resulted in the ritual to be only partially successful, and My lady failed to form into coherent being. Both Cornellian and Loth saw her act as treason, no mortal should have dared to ascend, and try to dictate to them. And both briefly unified to destroy her and banished what remained to Shadow, striking her and her memory from existence.
My lady was not completely destroyed however and reformed around the memory of the wizard’s betrayal. But who was she? There were gaps in her memory and her knowledge of who she was and she elected to collect memories like jewels in hopes of remembering herself through the memories of others. In the process she and the realm of shadow became one, or rather the shadows became a reflection of herself.
There were others who have tried to claim the shadow, to take what is hers, to continue the betrayal. Orcus, Vecna and Shar have all attempted to claim the essence of shadow. Each leaving their own mark like scars on her body. To the point where her realm, the gateway to the other planes, that that once offered a peaceful passage from life to death is now simply known as the Shadow Fell. My lady continues to resist and continue the struggle to simply exist. Her very existence is opposition to intelligent undeath and betrayal, To those who resist the fates through unnatural means. This has been her existence for, what seems to her, eons. She has learned to play a very long game and use the shadows of her essence as an advantage. She also has become very adept at using her tools to her advantage.
I am a Drow and have just had my 87th birthday. Most elves would not even consider me an adult. My lady’s attention was drawn to my house during its betrayal and destruction. This is a common occurrence and the destruction of my home and family will not even be a foot note in the history of the Drow. A male in a minor house, it would have seemed that the fates had decided that I would have had a short brutal life followed by an eternity of torment for the amusement of Loth and her minions. I appealed for help in the darkness, looking for any escape from death, from Loth, from the eternity that awaited me through the accident of my birth.
A raven of Shadow answered, and the pact was made. I would serve my lady and be her tool to affect change in this plane and in return she would help me escape, sparing my life and granting me powers to serve her. The cost you ask? Once I die I will join her in the Shadow Realm and serve her there. The cost was yet another gift allowing me to avoid Loth and that eternity of torment.
So yes friend, while I bear you no ill will, I am a devoted and faithful servant of the Raven Queen. I would hope you would allow me to pass unmolested and perhaps offer what aid you can. The alternative? Well can you imagine Orcus and his cult in control of the Shadow Fell?
Ok so I liked the synergy Of the shadow sorcerer and the hex blade. I find myself disappointed in the lore and trying to create a backstory connected to the Raven Queen and the Shadow fell. What I could find was disjointed and unclear. I am guessing from the lack of response That I am not the only one. I have decided to go a different route. I still want to play a Gish type character and have decided to play an Artificer.
