Working on a back up character for a campaign. The plan class wise is going to be Pally/warlock.. not sure on the level ratio yet but know for sure going with Fathomless and I feel like Vengeance is the way to go for Pally. Here is the backstory I have. Just want some thoughts.
It’s been 40 years since I took to the ship at the young age of 18. It’s been 10 years since I’ve had a ship to call home. We were a peaceful merchant ship, bringing supplies to and from atolls and flotillas. I have met a lot of good men and woman in those 40 years. A lot of bad ones too. It’s the bad one that made who I am today.
Raiders of the Black Rose killed my entire crew and left me for dead some 10 years ago on some remote atoll. I assume only to tell the tale of what happened. To spread fear among those ships that aren’t armed. A passing ship saw me after half a year and brought me to Salvatora, where I have stayed since.
In these past 9 years I have found a place among a shipping company as a book keeper and adviser. I have yet to sail again. That is until something or someone came to me in a dream with a promise. The courage to board a ship once more. The strength to fight for what I deem necessary. And the power to make sure I can succeed. I know not what I am to give in return. I care not. I’m old. I’m past my prime. But I will not rest peacefully until I have my revenge.
It sounds like it will give you every reason you need to be adventuring and even gives your DM an npc faction to reference if the mood takes them.
As an aside on the mechanics on the warlock side of things, if Eldritch Blast is going to be a thing for you, there is an Invocation called Lance of Lethargy in Xanathars Guide to Everything which reduces the speed of one target hit by your eldritch blast by 10ft. Seeing as the Fathomless Warlock's Tentacle of the Deeps also reduces the speed of someone hit by it by 10ft, it might be worth checking with your DM to see if they would allow both to stack, I think RAW they do but some DM;s might rule otherwise....on a similar note you could achieve the same effect with Ray of Frost + Tentacle of the Deeps so if you could manufacture a way to get Ray of Frost you could do the same thing without using up a Invocation (easy option there would be if your DM would allow it to be a Warlock spell for you or if you have a Wizard ro Sorcerer in the party see if they would team up to pull the combo off now and then).
