i have been thinking about making a halfling warlock of the undying named Makabar. i have thought up a physical description but i have had a small block on writing the backstory itself.
Makabar is a tall Halfling (maybe 3"2 ) with cropped white hair and a large leather strap around his mouth with a small cut in it so that he can speak; he speaks in a raspy whisper of a voice. underneath the leather strap there is a torn, shredded mess of a mouth. his cheeks are almost non-existent and even part of his throat is torn.
someone please help me, i can't even decide his background.
Without some idea about how his face got mangled it is hard to make a good suggestion. Maybe a Haunted One background, some presence stalks the character and causes mishaps like someone spilling acid on the halflings face or something of the like.

"Where words fail, swords prevail. Where blood is spilled, my cup is filled" -Cartaphilus
"I have found the answer to the meaning of life. You ask me what the answer is? You already know what the answer to life is. You fear it more than the strike of a viper, the ravages of disease, the ire of a lover. The answer is always death. But death is a gentle mistress with a sweet embrace, and you owe her a debt of restitution. Life is not a gift, it is a loan."
oooooh! that's good. maybe he crossed a coven of night hags and they attacked him/cursed him? but the thing is because i had difficulty coming up with the backstory, no idea came to mind about how he got mangled.
Maybe he made a deal with them, and reneged on his agreement and they punished him for it. Maybe they gave the character the means to contact his undying patron itself but never supplied the night hags with the children that was agreed upon. A wasting disease to compliment his interest in undeath.
The other side of this could be maybe the disfigurement was of some necromantic origin that forged a tie between the character and this entity of undeath. "Drink this potion and you will be one step closer to ultimate power" followed by it rapidly degenerating their face and perhaps their whole body. Making them appear wasted and corpse like.
