I am a mildly experienced player (3+ years) and someone I know is DMing a new campaign. He is somewhat less experienced than me and so are the other players and he asked me to be there as a player and also to help him with rules and stuff.
anyway, my character is a monk. We are first level, and he is using a module called “[I can’t remember] at Stormwreck Isle”. He tells me it’s in Forgotten Realms, and shows me a map which shows it is somewhere on the sword coast. please don’t spoil module. My character is a 1st level monk who is also a Yuan Ti, pureblood but only I and the dungeon master know of this latter fact. I have decided he was sent by the other Yuan-Ti to explore, and on his way he trained at a human monk monastery, still in disguise. I have looked at a map of places outside of Toril that he could come from. Kara-Tur looks interesting, and the FR wiki says that yuan-ti originate from there, however from my reading of the sourcebooks they seem to be everywhere.
Maztica also looks really cool, seems to fit my character well.
chult also is similar to this, and I know more about that area than the others (I’ve read ToA), but is in Faerûn, and not that far away, so it wouldn’t have the feel I’m going for.
help appreciated, thanks.
EDIT: I just realised I had violated site guidelines by comparing some of the above places to continents on Earth. I have edited those parts out.
Kara Tur is really now a part of Faerun/FR. Chult is good. Some of the lore has the Yaun ti being created by the Sarrukh 30k years ago and one of their major centers is Chult. There are actually Yaun ti n leaves in the sword coast - the forest of worms is one.
You might want to look up Najara (5e) and read about the Yaun ti kingdom in the sword coast. It’s not heavily detailed so you could easily put a yuan ti monk monastery in there making the back story easier.

Just pick any mountain range or forest on the Sword Coast and say “somewhere in this region”.
Unless you’re a cartographer, your character wouldn’t likely know more than that. https://19216811.cam/
