So, the next issue of the Oerth Journal (#29) has been published! It's a magazine dedicated to the original campaign setting by Gary Gygax, the World of Greyhawk. And it's almost entirely about lore of the setting! This one came out a lot sooner than they used to, and I'm happy to see it! So, if you're into Greyhawk, or want to read more stuff on it, or you just like free, interesting NPCs for your home game … check it out.
Time has come again, for us to publish the next issue of the Oerth Journal! … [link above]
We’re incredibly proud to announce that there’s a brand-spanking new issue of the Oerth Journal now out!! There’s all KINDS of great things to be found that are all related to NPCs of Greyhawk; about the “Folks” of Greyhawk!
An interesting bit is that there’s a little theme-within-a-theme going on. This issue begins a three-part homage to some of the oldest City of Greyhawk content. One of the booklets from the 1989 CoG boxed set was titled, “Folks, Feuds, and Factions”.
So … OJ29 (this issue) was "Folks" (i.e. NPCs) … OJ30 this Autumn will be about “Feuds” OJ31 this Winter will be about “Factions”!
“Folks” – NPCs of the Free City of Greyhawk – OVER 30 NEW NPCs!! ● Scribe’s Chronicle – Letter from the Editor ● Broken Staff of the "Broken Staff" – by Denis Tetreault ● Gord the Rogue – by Lee “Tanith1st” Murphy ● The Guardian – by Will Dvorak ● Vengeance: A Greyhawk Story – by Tony “VorpalDM” Milani ● NPCs of the Free City of Greyhawk CHART – by Patrick “Frogsama” Germann ● “Folks of Saltmarsh” – Three articles by Mike “Milcheax” Crisefi, Bryan “Saracenus” Blumklotz, and Oerth Journal Staff ● Freeswords of Greyhawk – by Jay L. “Lord Gosumba” Scott ● Covert War in GH – the Nightwatchmen – by Will Dvorak ● Thieves’ Guild of Greyhawk – by Thom Vandevenne ● Guild of Wizardry – by Thom Vandevenne ● Tale of Erkio – by Michael Gross ● Tale of Thorguth – by Michael Gross ● The Irregulars – the cast of a Greyhawk Channel show!
There’s also a separate, full-sized download available of the gigantic two-page chart of the NPCs of the Free City of Greyhawk, by Patrick “Frogsama” Germann found on p19-20 of the magazine!! [link above]
Greyhawk Online is also very proud to note there was a great deal of support for this issue of the Oerth Journal!! In the final 72 hours of formatting and layout before it was finished, the magazine went from 32 pages of content to 46 pages of content from 13 authors. The only difficulty is that for print layout reasons, the Oerth Journal is limited to pages in multiples of 4, to make page count come out correctly.
And so, what we’re doing, is we’re releasing some bonus content as an online supplement! You can click the link [above] to download the three extra NPCs written by Devin “MysteryCycle” Parker, and Mike “Milcheax” Crisefi!! There’s a snooty noble swordsman who’s just spoiling for a fight, a tricky gal who’s a cleric of Rudd, and is just bucking for a game. Any game. And an adorable homeless girl who’s makes a great sympathetic NPC for the characters to help!
I'm kind of wondering what everyone else thought. I really, really liked the flowchart-type NPC chart for the Free City of Greyhawk that shows so many of the NPCs there, and how they are connected to each other.
