I'm writing a new campaign based on an event that shook the whole world known as the Great Shift, where the guardian of the world saved it from its creators by teleporting it far into the cosmos where they can't find it. This is the start of the campaign and I'd like to know what you think. Thanks!
‘You are a citizen of Optima Nova, a city of magic build on the back of the starmaw. A starmaw is a celestial whale the size of a state that soars gracefully beneath the stratosphere between clouds and stars. The colours of the rainbow towers wash off like a fading aurora in its wake. A wall surrounds the rainbow city and its buildings grow taller and prouder until they converge at its centre tower: The Magistrate. You witness silver water flash out of the Magistrate; the starmaw exhaling. It is a spectacle to behold to the rare newcomer and a gleeful reminder of the residing citizens. Optima Nova does not allow wanderers from the surface world in often. Too dangerous; too unpredictable, according to the Magistrate. The city is governed and created by its sole ruler Jethro Bane: A man older than anyone in the city. He fathered the starmaw, summoned the city and charts its course as it navigates across the world below. That world is Atlas.
Atlas is a dangerous world. It is also a strange world. Things don’t make sense on Atlas. A century ago, a great shift in the cosmos transformed the world entirely. The world’s tallest mountains are now mere pikes rising about the white washing waves, ancient tunnels are laid bare to the sunlight and confined cities are scattered in all lands high and low. In the aftermath of this event, starving countries found themselves lost in jungles, summit cities drowned as the tide crashed from the skies, fires burned in frozen wastelands – Nothing is as history had built Atlas to be. And Optima Nova had seen it all happen from the skies.
Why? You may wonder. You don’t know. Not many know. The answer to this Great Shift lies only with the strongest of mind and oldest of age, in those who have survived and haven’t forgotten.’
whats the story like. Rescuing and leading survivors into a new age. Raiding old buildings for lore and Wealth. Political intrigue on the last intact city.
Thanks!!! It's still work in progress but I'm very excited :)
As the scenario describes, an event has taken place that has alloyed the world. The Dark God intended to destroy it but couldn't as it was hidden by powerful magic. Jethro Bane, weakened by his immense magical act, takes the Dark God as patron to regain powers and follows the preachings that the Dark God channels through him - to destroy the world as it had deemed. A session or two-three later after some political intrigue and Jethro destroys the city, kills the starmaw and crashlands on Atlas. The players awaken together after the fall in a strange land and must find their way back to the now Optima Nova (backstories will bring them back). Meanwhile, the Cult has set foot on Atlas and is starting to spread and the players learn that Atlas isn't as bad as it was preached by Bane and that it is worth saving.
