Firearms exist in the Forgotten Realms and have since roughly the start of the setting.
They're very rare, the Church of Gond has a near-monopoly on their production. Firearms also don't use gunpowder in the Forgotten Realms, they use smokepowder, which is similar but weaker and also magical (and thus vulnerable to being dispelled or caught in an Anti-Magic Field). Gunpowder explicitly doesn't work due to divine decree by Gond.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.
I was going to mention the Lantanese pistols in Waterdeep: Dragon Heist, but it looks like the others beat me to it. Your DM might not like it if its a more purely "mideaval tropes" game, as other waterdeep content includes freakin robots.
So, artificer, that’s my new character’s class, I wanted them to have a firearm but IDk if there are firearms in the forgotten realms.
There are some NPC's in Dragon Heist with revolver-type weapons, but I don't believe they're terribly widespread.

I'd say if you wanna place as an Artificer who uses guns, have him/her be from Lantan where guns are more known.
