So, I want to make a blaster Spellcaster, and I'm thinking guild artisan for background, while class is totally dependent on the race. I'm looking at the kenku, tabaxi and kobold for race.
Speaking of kobolds:
Do they really need that minus 2 strength? Without it, they really aren't super powerful. Should they get a plus one to a mental score? I would say int makes sense, as does wisdom. But charisma makes more sense it terms of the actual stat blocks (the scale soul sorcerer). So, what do you think for the character, and for kobolds?
Also worth seeking out Midgard Heroes Handbook which has a Kobold race as well (Dex & Int ability score increases, tinkers tools proficencey otherwise as VGtM)

* Need a character idea? Search for "Rob76's Unused" in the Story and Lore section.
aside from that I might recreate the Kobold Inventor from VGtM. Not sure if its worth going Artificer with it but a Gloomstalker Ranger could be interesting, scouting around making traps, befriending little critters etc.

Just use the "Wildmount" rules that races don't have negative stat traits.
I'm not sure about a kenku caster. The idea just always sounds weird to me personally.
Tabaxi sounds like a really fun race to play. I'm not sure what direction you're RP will take but it sounds fun regardless. Playing one as a blaster could be part of the reason they are traveling, to find more spells or learn new magic from faraway Masters.
I think playing a kobold caster would be a lot like playing a halfling or gnome. Whoever expects big things out of small packages… I understand you are hatred for negative stats on races, especially when I think only two of them have negatives. But at the very least I think it would be a smart choice and a little more Lore friendly if strength was you're dump stat.
I know it may sound cheesy but if you're going for charisma based casters warlocks can do the job well. Especially if you go act of the tome for the extra cantrips.
But with all things take your ideas to your GM and see what they think about them.
If you want a stupidly versatile cantrip blaster than the good folks at nerdarchy do a build for that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsiS6oVdbNw they used a human variant for the build but a kobold would make a decent version, albeit with a couple of cantrips less in their repetoire.

I had thought about the artificer, but it didn't give me the blaster I wanted, in terms of spells. That's my main focus.

Depedns on your definition of blaster but I did like the Gunsmith artificer (https://media.wizards.com/2016/dnd/downloads/1_UA_Artificer_20170109.pdf) with the Thunder Cannon, maybe mix it with a 3-4 level dip into fighter to get an extra attack and go champion of extra crit chance.
