Hey all. About to start a Wildemount campaign centered around the War of Ash and Light and my party has a Kryn knight who is searching for the truth about consecution. I haven't caught up to Critical Role 2 yet, but I've skimmed some of the wiki and stuff to try and see what I could find out about consecution and Luxon lore. There's a kalashtar NPC who ties into this Kryn knight's backstory that I want to expand into a bigger role. Of course, the kalashtar are an Eberron race, but I wanted to ask around and see what people's thoughts were on integrating them into Wildemount.
I'm talking like deep dive, what's some stuff I can do with what's been provided in EGtW (and possibly with how the Xhorhas arc plays out in CR 2)? I read a comment somewhere on Reddit, I think, about tying kalashtar into consecution as a "failed" reincarnation or part of some deeper secret about consecution and the whole process, but I haven't been able to brainstorm anything else about it. Can anyone lend a hand? Much appreciated!
I'm not very familiar with Ebberon as a setting, so I can't help you on the kalashtar front, but there have been a lot of theories and questions floating around about consecution, what happens to souls who aren't consecuted, etc, within the Critter community. I myself would like some answers to these questions lol. If it's any consolation, the full secrets of consection haven't been revealed yet.
Here are a few options for how a Kalashtar could exist in Wildemount:
One of the Kryn Dynasty who has been consecuted somehow has the process of reincarnation go wrong. Maybe the Luxon Beacon was just out of range, the soul was somehow stopped from travelling to it, or a powerful spell bound the soul of the deceased to another who has also been consecuted. Instead of having a Quori spirit, the soul bound to you is another humanoid, enhancing your mental abilities and giving you telepathy and the other powers of a Kalashtar.
You were born in the ruins of Aeor or twisted land of Blightshore where some phantom or other undead or otherworldly spirit somehow merged with you, changing you into a Kalashtar.
You were taken either as a student or prisoner to a building (prison or academy), where you were experimented on or otherwise warped by aberrant magic, merging your body and soul with the spirit of a flumph or other aberrant spirit.
Here are just a few ways that you could be a Kalashtar in Wildemount. I hope this helps.
