i have a character idea of someone who is an assassian, but due to something going wrong he makes a deal with a higher power to save his partner. so originaly i'm thinking of starting with warlock, finishing that, and then take the rest of my levels into rogue. i mainly have RP and character in mind, and not min/max-ing. the idea is also for the character to be more of a sniper, using both long ranged eldritch blasts and also using his crossbow, depending on the situation.
now it should probably be said that there are probably better ways to do this character idea, but this is what i wanna go for, and i'm just not sure what way would be best to go about this character, so i wanted to ask people here what would be best to go about this character
The main problem with your idea is that Eldritch Blasts aren't eligible for Sneak Attack. You may get more mileage out of a Hexblade Patron with Pact of the Blade and the Improved Pact Weapon invocation (in Xanathar's Guide to Everything). Then when you switch to Rogue you will have a halfway-decent ranged weapon attack that will apply your sneak attack, along with your your pact magic for helpful spells.
that's fair. my idea is to take hexblade patron and pact of blade, and then go into assassian rogue after. i remember looking about this a while back, and i remember having either 13 or 9 levels into one of them, and the rest in the other. i just can't remember which one or if i had 13 or 9 :P

The more obvious way to go about synergy here would be for your rogue subclass to be swashbuckler.
You could also consider multiclassing Rogue/Blood Hunter (Profane Soul) rather than Rogue/Warlock. The Profane Soul doesn't really get invocations like a normal warlock, but does cast the same types of spells and have a thematic pact with their patron, as well as getting a lot of Blood Hunter class features like Crimson Rite and Blood Maledict which will play nice with whatever weapons you end up using. A Rogue/Blood Hunter would be Dex & Intelligence based rather than Dex & Charisma like the Warlock, but I think that in some ways, Blood Hunters will be more satisfying for you than Warlocks will as long as you don't have a bunch of invocations you were hoping for (and you can still take a coupe if you'd like, using Eldritch Adept).
since i was going with a kind of "sniper" idea i was going to get a handfull of eldritch blast invocations. haven't looked at blood hunter, because if i end up using him in a campaign i want to use as much official content as possible (don't know if blood hunter has been officialy released or if it's still HB)

I'm going to make this way harder than it needs to be.
What level does the campaign start at, and what level will it end at?
currently it's just a character concept. i would like to know exactally what levels to take before using him in a campaign
