My party might be heading to Avernus before too long, The DM has hinted at it. So I'm wondering if there is a way to create a demon portal or summon a demon.
My thinking is demons and Devils hate each other enough to cause a distraction.
There’s the spells summon lesser demons, summon greater demon and summon fiend, where you choose the type as demon. Lesser demons is a level 3 spell, so not too high level.
But while you’re at it, you could always summon a celestial. If a demon would be a distraction, imagine an angel.
Alternatively you can use Summon Fiend to summon a... something? The demon it summons has a climbing speed for some reason despite only 2 demons having climbing speed. If you want a Demon that won't repeatedly try to betray you when summoned you can go for this.

The spell Summon Lesser Demons literally allows you to summon 2 - 8 Demon Chickens, which would be a very good distraction.
Summon Greater Demon allows you to summon one of the following: Tanarukk, Barlgura, Shadow Demon, Dybbuk, Babau, Bulezau, Rutterkin, Quasit, Maw Demon, Dretch, Abyssal Wretch, Abyssal Chicken or a Manes if you want a more 'Summon a big demon to rampage around while I escape'. You could also upcast it to summon a: Chasme or Vrock at 5th level; a Armanite, a Draegloth or Maurezhi at 6th level; a Hezrou or Shoosuva at 7th level; a Glabrezu at 8th level or a Yochlol at 9th level (If you ever get that far) (*phew* That's a long list of demons)
