So Ancestral Guardian Barbarian that build to be a frontline tank and give a disadvantage to enemies
my stats are
str 16
dex 14
con 16
int 10
wis 15
char 10
we are starting at lv 3 and get one free feat i taking PAM and at lv 4 sentinel
now im
trying to pick a race that would be better overall and im thinking mountain dwarf or Kender mountain dwarf for the +2 in str. and con. or Kender (prods going +2 con. +1 wis.) for Fearless and Taunt
The raw power of 18 in both your main stats at level 3 meaning that your offput asi's for the sentinel feat is reasonable just seems so strong. This stat increase will boost so many features, hp, damage, ac, con saves etc. Mountain dwarf wins that battle.
Of course, if stats aren't your main goal and more abilities are, then kender does well. Just remember your bonus action slots will be competitive in combat for rage and fearless/taunt (it is a ba isnt it? If not then it could loose you rage due to not having hit anything).
Id say mountain dwarf cause a solid hitpool is really important for a lower level tank build, and you can still dish out crazy damage with pam/sentinel/18 strength.

Since size does not seem to matter in DND go the fun route with Kendar.
However, I find myself often going with human variant. Bonus feat at level 1, and pluses to stats. then you can take another ability score improvement at level 4 and have 2 18's and a feat.

OP, Since size matters in DND, I would go with the mtn dwarf to use a glaive or halberd (not Pike) without disadvantage and get pole arm master as your next feat (when you are at right level) since it works well with Sentinel. Also, this way you get 18 STR and CON starting and to retrain the dwarven weapons and armor profs as tools and instruments (might as well do something with it).
If you're going to go Polearm Master/Sentinel, Mountain Dwarf is the better choice. Most importanly, Dwarves are considered Medium creatures, while Kender are considered small. Small creatures have disadvantage when using Heavy weapons, and every Polearm with the Reach feature (which exponentially improves both PAM and Sentinel) is also Heavy.
Kender has a lot of neat tricks that you can take advantage of, but you'll be forced to stay in close range and won't have as much ability to shut-down opponents using Sentinel. If you were to go Kender I would recommend carrying a spear and shield... less damage output, but the boost to AC makes you a lot harder to hit, which pairs well with the ability to force enemies to target you with their taunt feature.

Mountain dwarf by a mile! getting those double 18s, and leaving Wis as an odd number so you can grab Resilient:Wis eventually is really sweet.
