tl;dr: A character that saves a young homeless NPC girl from being assaulted, takes her under her wing and becomes her mother.
While on a nighttime shopping trip in the main shopping district of quite a large city, the character sees a young girl, no older than 13 or 14 being followed by a group of guys that are clearly up to no good. The character pretends not to take any notice, and to continue on with her shopping trip, but secretly, she keeps an eye on the girl.
When she sees one of the thugs grabs hold of the girl and start to drag her down a dark alley, she abandons her shopping trip, pulls up her hood and sets off in pursuit. She moves with inhuman grace, speed and agility, easily weaving in and out of the thronging crowd. When she gets near the alley the thugs pulled the girl down, she mumbles something to herself and seems to vanish.
Three of the thugs are keeping a look out for their buddy who has the girl - they don't even see the character coming, or even have time to realise they are under attack. She comes at them from one direction, then another, then another; she is like a shadow and in moments she has quietly dispatched the three lookouts. Now the character reappears, she lowers her hood and calmly walks around the corner, to find the last thug taring at the girl's clothes, trying to assault her. Now the character speaks, in a firm and confident voice. "What do you think you are doing! Leave her alone! Stop that right this minute!"
Realising that he has been caught, the thug pulls out his dagger and drives the pummel into the side of the girls head, knocking her back against the wall. The girl is still alive but she is shocked and dazed and not moving.
The thug turns to face the character, his face all twisted up like some kind of monster. Not realising that the character has already taken out his buddies, he calls out them. "Hey boys, we have another do-gooder, and this one is a cutie, we are going to have so much fun!"
The character doesn't flinch, instead, she replies to his taunt coldly and calmly. "Your fun is over. Now you die!"
The thug begins to prepare for the attack, but before he even has time to blink, the character is up in his face, he tries to take a step back but she is behind him. He feels a sharp pain in his lower back and tries to call out to his buddies for help, but before he can even utter a word, he feels a stabbing pain in his heart. He drops his dagger, clutches his chest, falls to the ground and feels nothing, ever again.
After she has killed the last of the thugs, the character kneels down in front of the injured girl. She gently moves the girls head to one side so that she can look at injury - it is not life threating but it will need to be treated. She takes off her pack and rummages through it until she finds what she is looking for - some clean cloth and healing herbs that she uses to create a poultice, and a bandage to secure it to the girls head.
After dressing the girls wound, she brushes her hair away from her face, almost combing it with her fingers, and takes a better look at the girl. She is clearly homeless, but it doesn't seem as though she has been on the streets for long. She is wearing a dirty, tattered dress that would have once been a fine gown, the kind of thing you might wear on your birthday or for a special event perhaps. The girl also appears to be in fairly good physical condition, although you can see that the effects of starvation are beginning to show themselves.
The character reasons that she must have been on the streets only a few weeks, a month perhaps, two at the most.
As the girl begins to regain consciousness, the first thing she sees is her attacker laying in a pool of blood and a strange woman kneeling in front of her. She begins to panic and is just about to start screaming when the character wraps her arms around her as though she was the girl's mother. "Poor little thing" she whispers into the girl's ear, "it must have been terrible for you, but it's okay now, your safe."
The character sits there, patiently cuddling the girl as she sobs into the character's cloak.
When the girl is starting to feel better, and her tears have started to recede, the character lets her go and sits back on her haunches. "My names Amelia," she says, "what's yours?" "Sadie" replies the girl quietly.
"Well Sadie, I'm sort of hungry, are you hungry?"
The character doesn't even wait for the girl reply, she takes her by the hand and stands up, pulling the girl to feet, and then turns to lead her out of the alley. The girl tries to protest, "Wait, I've got no ....." but the character just continues, leading the girl out of the alley, talking as she does. "Don't worry about it, this is your town, right? Well, I have never been here before, so you can show me around and we will get some food k."
"Do you like noodles Sadie, I love noodles, pork, beef, chick, seafood - which do you want?"
"I like pork, but I can't ..." the character cuts her off again.
"Then pork it is, and afterwards, I've got some people that I want you to meet, they great friends of mine ... so don't even worry about it!"
It seems to be pointless trying to argue, and the girl is hungry - besides, the characters enthusiasm, is somewhat infectious. "Okay then," says the girl, "I know a place that serves excellent noodles, I used to go there with my dad, " and then with more sadness in her voice, "when he was still alive!"
The character pulls her closer and puts her arm around the girl as they walk. "You've got me now Sadie, and my friends will love you too - don't be sad, you don't have to be alone anymore, I promise!"
