Aarokocra for aerial domination, Svirfneblin Gnome is a good stalker type, and Feral Tiefling for some spells added into the repertoire. I dunno I really love the idea of the Arcane Archer but I feel like I could do better as an eldritch knight using a bow... I hope these extra suggestions fuel the flame of creation.

"I have found the answer to the meaning of life. You ask me what the answer is? You already know what the answer to life is. You fear it more than the strike of a viper, the ravages of disease, the ire of a lover. The answer is always death. But death is a gentle mistress with a sweet embrace, and you owe her a debt of restitution. Life is not a gift, it is a loan."
A Tabaxi would allow you to snipe from tree tops and rooftops due to their climb ability. They also give you an escape button if the heavies focus down on you since you can move really fast for a round.
An Air Genasi would allow to cast Levitate on yourself.
Being a Ghostwise Halfling means you get to re-roll some 1's and telepathy, which you could use to coordinate battle tactics in the middle of a fight without your opponents knowing about it.
A dexterity + intelligence race would be preferable since it will boost your damage and your arcane shot DC. But anything that adds one or the other would be fine. One not mentioned yet is Kenku if you're more into the Roguish style of sneaking lying and counterfeiting.
All good choices, I have thought about a tabaxi with their awesome mobility and +2 for dex. Air genasi is fun for flavor and the levitate is great to create an opportunity for arcane shot (but not the best modifiers with only +1 for dex) and ghostwise for telepathy is great for tactics. I guess I have trouble finding a "really strong choice" outside of the elves that give you elven accuracy and the best ability score modifiers.I don't believe there are any other races with dex and int + , but I was looking to possibly to avoid the cliche elf archer character.
Well Goblin can be strong for a ranged character. They're +2 Dex +1 Con so not optimal in that regard but still useful. The key is they get Disengage or Hide as a Bonus Action like Rogues which is extremely useful for an archer. Fury of the Small is a little added nicety.
Of course they are a monstrous race though so they might not be viable for certain campaigns.
For little more thoughts on the racial choices I mentioned.
Aarakocra Really the main thing here is going to be dex and the added positioning options available, and the ability to get out of harms way from certain enemies. I mean what is more dangerous than an enemy hurling arrows at you from a distance<? One that you cannot even get to engage in melee. Although it does give lots of potential it can also feel like a one trick pony, and depending on the DM they may just shut you down with counters to your aerial prowess.
Svirfneblin Dex and intelligence make for a great starting point, being small means you lose some damage from not being able to wield a longbow. Their innate ability to have advantage against half of the spell saves is very useful, which being resistant to mind controls of almost every flavor is pretty swanky on top of already having pretty good physical saves from proficiency, and ou will have a high dex. This leaves you well protected from every spell saving throw out there (from magical sources). Superb darkvision is nothing to scoff at either, if you want to shoot someone from 120ft in the dark you can do that. Stone Camouflage is situationally handy too.
Feral Tiefling Dex and Int always a good start. Fire Resist is useful, nothing amazing but useful. Getting a little bit of magical options thrown on top of the archer abilities can only be a boost. Thaumaturgy is a fun little spell with many ways to use it. Need a distraction and it has you covered, trying to communicate with your group if they get separated, strike terror into the hearts of your enemies with glowing eyes, the candles all turn blue and the ground starts to shake as a thundercrash echoes in an audience chamber? Priceless. The Hellish Rebuke is just a little spite against someone who does hit you, although it will be running off your charisma stat so expect half damage most times. Darkness, need to keep some monsters out of the fray for a few moments, or even drop it behind you when you are fleeing for your life from a dragon. Just try to avoid messing up your teammates with this one (I'm looking at you warlocks).
A big thing to me would be what kind of role do you want to perform? Are you looking to be a hero, a villain, joe shmoe who is unnaturally good with a bow? Maybe a bounty hunter, or do gooder who lives as a vigilante stalking the night. Whatever the answer is, good luck have fun.

I like variant human because you can take the sharpshooter feat at 1st level. And I would definitely dip at least 3 levels into assassin rogue......but that's just me.....
I think high elf, feral tiefling, or variant human are probably the strongest choices.
I find this subclass to be more flavorful than powerful. I think ranger or battle master pull off the tactical archer better (could also do gunslinger if CR is allowed).

Assassination is strong in theory crafting, but surprising enemies is unreliable in practice. Scout is better for archer builds in my opinion.
I mean, High Elf just screams Arcane Archer. The flavor text of the subclass specifically mentions the Elven origins of the specialty. What annoys me is the subclass first lets you choose between an arcane or nature theme, but then locks you into Int for your save DC. I would've allowed Int or Wis, the same way Battle Masters can use Str or Dex for their DC.
Forest & Deep Gnomes would also be solid choices, both mechanically and thematically. Int/Con races like Fire Genasi or Rock Gnome, and Dex/Con races like Air Genasi or Stout Halfling aren't bad choices either, but I would prefer Dex/Int bonuses so I get boosts to both my Attack stat and save DC.
Hi guys besides the obvious choice of variant human or Elf (any kind really), what are some other good choices for this class?
