I have a Life Cleric in Adventurers League with a Candle of Invocation and at some point he's going to want to use it.
The first problem is it's a candle. So being in combat must be quite careful right? any DM could call that it goes out or has to be carried around. Perhaps even with care.
As a DM how would you deal with it. I would say it could be put into a bullseye lantern and carried yet it would hinder during melee combat. Having a lantern swing around on your back isn't ideal is it?
Is there some clever solution to getting the candle lit and moving around during melee combat without worrying too much about it going out?
Pretty much, if you're using a candle and want to be in melee, you probably want have it in a static position (preferably on a raised dais/table) but if your opponent is intelligent, they may realise that the candle is a magic item and target it.
If you try to take the candle into melee, as a bullseye hanging off you, that's really precarious and likely to get smashed.
I think that the expectation with this item is that the cleric is standing back, casting spells, so can hold the candle in one hand.

I would not making a big issue bringing around the candle, unless there is flammable material nearby. Maybe, you can fix to the shield?
