Simple and fun -Tag your favorite [monster] monster[/ monster], or the monster you most enjoyed playing against/throwing against your PCs. If you'd like, please tell us why you like it so much. If it's not in the database, you can still mention it without the tag
If you have a moment, take some time to fill out the poll above. It's good for research!
I'll start:
For me, my monster of choice will be the Oni. I dare say I threw him at my 3rd level party, and, though they astonishingly almost defeated him, he became a very prominent, creepy, and returning villain who blackmailed them into being his minions, and had them at the palm of his hand. the entire campaign they wanted nothing more than to break their "deal" with him.
I'm not - nor was I ever - your "obstacle" until you've deemed me as such, nor am I your wallet, my hard earnt money is not yours by deault.
Je suis Consumer - We are the foundation, the floor beneath your rug. our support is the fate of every retail product, business, and franchise. for success you need support.
I will always miss what you were, but I will never miss what you've become.
I have a couple of specific monsters I like and often use if I have a chance (and the CR is relevant to the party's level, of course). The Displacer Beast is one of them (sadly not in SRD; Monster Manual pg. 81), the Nightwalker is another (sadly not in 5th edition yet). I have more, but those are the two most iconic for my DMing habits.
On a sidenote, that [monster] tag is very interesting, and I was unaware of it. How'd you find out about it? Is there a tag reference somewhere I missed?

Excellent choices! :)
You can find it in the update notes here. We can cross-link spells, magic items and rules too!

I'm unsure which end of the 1 to 5 scale for answers is the "more" end.
My monster of choice... that's a tough one.
It might be the beholder, because I include one in any campaign I run that involves characters that can handle one.
Or it might be vampire, because those are the creatures that when I do include them are given the greatest depth and importance I can give to a NPC or monster.
I'm a very relatively new DM, so I haven't experienced the cornucopia of fantastic and horrific abominations the Monster Manuel has to offer.
My favorite monster I've ran so far has been a homebrewed Duergar Vampire Spawn. My players found him with a harem of zombies in a long abandoned fort, and the combat lasted for nearly an hour. My players were abosolutely terrified!
We're doing our own book on Kickstarter! It's going to be amazing--300 pages, art, and so much high quality content you'll be drownin' in it... Click here to check it out and sign-up!
Well the monster i put my pcs against the most would be goblins i think but my favirot to pit aganst the would be lycanthropes because my pcs where in a town of them one wrong move and they would have needed new characters.

Monstrosities... then Aberrations... then Plants... then Humanoids... then Undead.
Them's my favorites.

Mimic door. Mimic rug. Mimic doorknob. Mimic trapdoor. Mimic floor. Mimic loot. Mimic anything, especially something the PCs are going to touch.

The barkeep asked why we carried weapons in the bar.
I said "Mimics".
The barkeep laughed, the party laughed, the table laughed, we killed the table.
It was a good time.
