Long story short I have a Great Old One Warlock that discovered infernal ancestry and wants to become use a Fiend pact now.
Logically allowing a process to change pacts works since it's much less obtuse (and potentially game-breaking) than outright multi-classing, and can invite a fascinating layer of role-playing as characters develop and their individual story arcs feed into the main campaign.
In this case, now the player has a means to influence devils to aid against the Cult of the Dragon in the Caldera against an opposing devil's forces, whereas previously there wasn't a clear path for the party to appeal for such aid without a contract and all the risks therein.
For DMs, Warlock PCs and anyone else whom can benefit, please feel free to share any ideas on how changing a pact can go throughout the course of a character's play!
I did a patron change in my backstory, by saying that the new Fey patron "overwrote" the whole patron shizzle from the other Fey. My DM allowed it. I think you could RP it with some old forbidden magic that changes the bonds between them?

A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.

your patron might die...
Your patron might be both a great old one and a fiend and decides to change your contract
you might meet a fiend that is powerful enough to over ride your pact
a devil or demon might defeat and hold power over your patron...
those are some of the best ideas that I came up within five minutes... (shrugs)
With a GOO it's feasible.
The PH clearly says that a GOO patron may not even know that the warlock exists..so having a 2nd patron won't cause any issues
