I would like help with this build. This is honestly my first time playing and wanted to start with this build im think dragonborn are a steong class that gets a stregth and charisma bonus every level.
The main idea is a melee warlock
Also asking how would this look on paper
Copper(acid dex save) dragonborn takes warlock patrons fiend using pact of of the blade.
And so my idea is i can use pact of the blade to deal with most low level encounters and also use my dragonic breathe to do huge damage in mid level encounter and then going invisible to find opening And unloading my spells and contrails on bigger problems? Like would it work out like that? Because the build would have mainly i think stregth history intimidation and deception.
The back story would go along the lines of i was in a clan that were slaves to dragons and we were ripped from your demension and now seeing the world with out being surpressed we realize how powerful dragonborn can be and seek power to travel demension to demension spreading the information so the proud dragonborn can see we have been duped into slavery when we can actually a broad world to dive into
Also when i rolled for stats I got in order. 16. 19.16.19.11.16 originally thought
strength 16. Dex 19. con 19 int 11. wisdom16. charisma 16.
so basically what I am asking is is this a possible character and would it be viable if say it was in your last campaign alignment would be nutrual with over all goal of becoming extrademensio traveler and adventurer, that if provoked or attacked could lay waste to most enemies or excape in tacked..
You’ll discover quickly that the Dragonborn’s breath weapon isn’t as impressive as it looks on paper. It’s nice, but it requires you to be up in front so you don’t hit your friends and it only works once per short or long rest. I’d arrange your stats differently with those rolls because you want to maximize your stats strategically.
Strength 16 (18 after racial bonus), Constitution 16 for HP, Dexterity 19 for AC, Intelligence 11, Wisdom 16, Charisma 19 (20, which is the max, after racial bonus). That’s only if you’re going to take the Resilient (Dexterity) feat at 4th level to increase your Dexterity to 20 and give you proficiency in Dexterity saving throws. That will give you an AC of 17 with Studded Leather Armor or 18 with Mage Armor. The other option is swap your Strength, Constitution, and Dexterity scores and take the Moderately Armored feat at 4th level and buy half plate and a Shield for an AC of 19 and increase your Strength to 20 at 4th level and have 16 in both Constitution and Dexterity. Either option is great and will make you very effective in melee if you take every Eldritch Invocation that enhances Pact of the Blade and spells like Armor of Agathys and Hellish Rebuke that let you do damage to your opponents when they hit you with melee attacks.
I would avoid the Booming Blade and Green Flame Blade cantrips because they probably won’t scale very well. You’ll want to do 2 attacks at 5th level more than you’ll want to do the extra damage that those spells add to a single attack. I would take one ranged cantrip because you can’t always be in melee, but you won’t use it very often. For your leveled spells, keep in mind that you only have 2 spell slots per short rest so you won’t use them very often. There are a few strategies that you can use, I’d suggest that you experiment and figure out which one you like the most.
I also like your back story. Nice concept it works very well! Fighters will do more damage in melee than you’ll do, but you’ll have little surprises with your spells and other abilities that will make you into a very respectable melee character!
