Hello! I am tempted to make a winged tiefling warlock, but I was wondering of mask of many faces. Could I use that so I would look like another race (like a human) without tail and wings? Ofcourse they would still physically BE there, so if someone would touch the tail they would understand that it is there. But I wanted a way to "blend in".
I've pondered on this myself and I don't have a good answer. Disguise self does specify "You can’t change your body type, so you must adopt a form that has the same basic arrangement of limbs." I don't think you could convince me that wings and/or a tail are not limbs. From a functional/in-game perspective it makes sense to me that if you added limbs to your illusion, there is no easy mapping to your physical body. Removing limbs on the other hand doesn't have the same issue. This mostly leaves me with more questions to which the most likely answers are, "ask your DM."
My female Winged Tiefling, a Warlock Hexblade, uses Disguise Self when she doesn't want to be bothered by the local fauna. She also has proficiency with a Disguise Kit, the Actor feat and proficiency in Deception, so she should be pretty much ok!
In the spell description it states that it can make you appear one inch taller or shorter, skinnier or bigger. Those limitations in mind, I'd say the wings would be too big. If you could fold them so they're less than in inch in any direction you should in theory be able to use disguise self.
It's 1 foot shorter or taller, and skinny, fat, or in between. I'm not sure that's really the issue. If you choose to appear one foot shorter, your real head still exists invisibly above the illusory one.
There issue is more that you must have the same basic arrangement of limbs.
Its up to the DM, I would rule RAW you cant disguise yourself as having 4 limbs when you actually have 6, but I don't think that is RAI as you would expect all tieflings to have the same "body type".
IRL most creatures that have wings can have them pretty flush against the body when that are not flying so if I was DMing I would allow the disguise to work as long as they are not flying. (So no pretending to be a human wizard casting fly)

Hello!

Would mask of many faces work for that?
Absolutely. I play a Warforged Warlock who always appears to be Human via Mask of Many Faces.
