Hey guys I really like the idea of the order of scribes wizard and was looking to dip into a life or tempest cleric for just a level or 2 for heavy armor and heals.
does anyone have any other suggestions of a class or subclass I can dip into to either buff my wizard or just make it more fun to play with some cool ideas?
i really dont want to venture more than 2 levels into another class but would be willing to do 3 if you’ve found something really cool.
I appreciate any and all replies and feel free to talk my ear off :)
Tempest Cleric is the obvious one for their Channel Divinity. Another trick people enjoy is starting with a level of Artificer at level 1 for CON save and armor proficiencies without losing spell slot progression. Artificer would also not require having a 13 WIS which is a tertiary stat for Wizards.
The Tempest Channel Divinity is still a strong draw for Scribes, though. It's one of those "Is this broken?" combinations.
Artificer could be a good choice. They have a couple of healing options and you could use the infusions to enhance your wizard's equipment. Plus, their spellcasting is Int based and their spell slots round up when considering multiclassing.

As a scribes wizard you probably want to give priority to Intelligence then Dexterity/Constitution in some order
That fits very well with a one level dip into Artificer. It has the same spellcasting ability and gives you access to a decent number of prepared spells for a single level as your Intelligence will be good. Also you add your Int bonus to the healing from Cure Wounds so you will get just a little bit more out of it than you would from many Cleric dips - unless you compromise on the ability scores to boost your cleric abilities.
You do only get Medium Armor but if you have Dex 14 - and you probably want that anyway - that is not too much of a difference and it avoids the whole issue of also needing a good Strength score for heavy armor. It does give you Shield proficiency which helps.
Cleric dip is obviously also good but in many ways the Artificer feels a more natural match to the ability scores you want anyway. I quite like taking the first level in artificer for the Con save proficiency which is very nice for concentration checks and takes the pressure away from needing a feat to help with that if you use a lot of control spells.
Hexblade x2 levels, handy invocations and armor upgrade. 3rd level nets tome for more cantrips or the often underrated chain for extremely useful familiar
otherwise i agree on artificer, I feel a strong mechanic synergy between artificer and scribe, if only the level cap didnt make it impossible to scribe 11+\artificer 14+ but no 9th level spells!?
currently running an npc that made it to level 25, he runs a magic shop.

Pen and sword - which is mightier? Can't decide? Take both!
