I am creating a slight wizard with 8 strength and am wondering how he should carry his spellbook as well as other books (a notebook and faction codebook). A pouch can hold up to 6 pounds, but I am not sure it would accommodate the dimensions of the spellbook and other books. (Frankly, I am unsure of a spellbook's dimensions.) I am averse to backpacks which bring back horrible memories of beatings in high school. I believe the only other option would be to carry a sack, which seems kind of... low brow.
Keep in mind that adventurers won't get laughed at for a backpack, since they will likely need it for supplies and such.
That being said, my sorcerer loves books and has one clipped on her belt. She also dislikes backpacks since she has wings (aasimar with flightless wings) and often wears a cloak that covers her arms. She instead uses a shoulder bag for the books she can't keep on her belt. She can keep light supplies in there as well for all the travels.
My backup has a pirate/sailor background and uses maps as a spellbook. Think of maps of the sea, groups of islands or old treasure maps. These are rolled up, strapped together and put on her back along her shortsword. She has a few more pouches on her belt and in her coat voor other stuff but might get a shoulder bag as well
Both of these have a strength of 8. I know the first was a sorcerer, but change one book to a spellbook and you have a wizard :P
A lot of wizards tend to have their books strapped to their side like a pouch. Easy reach. Hell if you want to get fancy I am sure you could have it so that the book sticks to your belt or leg with an enchantment he made
A "spellbook" doesn't have to be an actual tome bound in leather and iron. It's just wherever your character keeps their notes on spells. If you don't want the character to haul around a heavy spellbook, just make it something lighter that makes sense for them

Active characters:
Carric Aquissar, elven wannabe artist in his deconstructionist period (Archfey warlock) Lan Kidogo, mapach archaeologist and treasure hunter (Knowledge cleric) Mardan Ferres, elven private investigator obsessed with that one unsolved murder (Assassin rogue) Xhekhetiel, halfling survivor of a Betrayer Gods cult (Runechild sorcerer/fighter)
A PHb weighs 1082g or 2.38..lbs so just a bit more than this 316 page (side) book. Spellbooks are typically crafted from animal hide so the sheets weigh more.
Consult an artificer to build a legged contraption to carry your supplies as well as your tomes. It won't carry you but it will handle your things and stay within 5 feet of you. It's your problem on how to get it across the chasm or up the rope...
Hire a porter to carry it. Use them as a "man friday" for other duties. Defiantly more high brow. The DM can make them a sidekick and give them personality.
PC: "Pay no attention to my goblin servant. He is as useful as he is ugly! Fetch me my footstool, knave."
Servant: "Yessir, right away sir. Would you like your snack, sir."
PC: "Why, yes that is an excellent idea. Get yourself something as well."
Servant: "Oh! Yes! Thank you sir. Right away sir."

Callum from the Dragon Prince (https://dragonprince.fandom.com/wiki/Callum/Gallery) carried his spellbook on a strap, though he also had a backpack (albeit carried the "cool" way over one shoulder).
What do others do?
A 5e spellbook can weigh 3 lbs so could potentially fit.

You could always have Tenser’s Floating Disk ritual in place to help you carry those loads.
