posted a message on Thinking about intelligence half feat for a multiclass bladesinger

All options seem pretty good to me. So if it were my choice then I would either pick the ASI of Strength and Intelligence (assuming Strength weapon) or a feat that fits the character thematically.

Feats are a nice way to help define the character a bit.
So for example with Skill Expert, why would she be exceptional in one of the skills?
With Fey Touched, what would make that she is both Shadow and Fey touched? Considering that the Shadowfell and Feywild are opposites.

If you use a Strength weapon a lot, then the ASI will give you a ton of benefits:
Better AC and concentration checks from Bladesong
    Better hit chance with weapons
    Better average damage with weapons
    1 more spell prepared
Increased hit chance with spells due to increased DC and to hit multiplier

If you pick Fey Touched, then I would personally not go for Hex as the extra spell. It uses a bonus action and uses concentration. Both of which you could potentially have better uses for, meaning you won't use it very often. Ofcourse if it fits the character really well, then ignore advice and go go go :P

posted a message on "Manifest Mind" Combinations - Questions and Ideas

Personally I side with your player here. Yes, RAW you are right, but I would handle it a bit different.

Obviously the player wasn't enjoying it much. Probably felt screwed over by the rules a bit. And such a little detail I am sure they did not realise, but the character would know. Sometimes as a DM we have to remind the players about things the characters would know, which includes these kind of rules.

I think in this specific case either let them have their ability or remind them about the ability's limitation before they are found.

posted a message on How do I use magic in a battle?

(don't know how quotes work here so I'll just copy paste :P )

Do any of your abilities increase when you level up?

No, they do not. There are certain levels that do have this feature though. If you go through the wizard table then you will see at 4th level something called "Ability Score Improvement". You see the same thing at levels 8, 12, 16 and 19. When you reach either of these levels as a wizard, then you can improve one ability score by +2 or 2 ability scores by +1.

But you don't have to worry about that yet.

Does a 'proficiency of +2' mean an INCREASE or does it just mean ' leave it at +2'?

Your proficiency bonus (+2 for you) is added to several things like: skills you are proficient in, attack rolls and spell saving DC.
Proficiency means that this is something your character is good at. So when you roll for that, you get to add your proficiency bonus to increase your chances of success (because you are good at it).
It is not an increase of anything, it is something you add on certain d20 rolls.

Proficiency increases at certain levels. At level 5 for example it becomes +3. You can find this in your wizard table as well.

    I hope this helped :)

posted a message on for all those wizard players who hate low ac

Or instead  of hating low AC it could be seen as a challenge. My sorcerer is either looking for cover or is constantly protected by her teammates. Part of the fun in battle is keeping her safe.

And for context, she has an AC of 11,  no Mage Armor and only recently acquired Shield through a magic item.

High AC is great and all, but low AC and d6 hit dice can also make combat more challenging and exciting. Just have to do more than "I attack that target, end turn".

posted a message on How good is Enchantment Wizard Instinctive Charm
    Quote from Mog_Dracov >>

Instinctive Charm is practically worthless.  Shield is much better.

Every tool has its uses and that makes Instinctive Charm far from useless.

Compared to Shield it is free, it can't be Counterspelled, and it has the potential to damage an enemy.

I agree that Shield is generally more useful and that the cost quickly becomes negligible. That doesn't mean that Instinctive Charm is practically worthless. It is a bit more risk/reward thing with some tactical usage.

posted a message on Can you switch spells from Sorcerer expand list on dndb?

I get it, but I don't think that new dice prevent issues like these to be resolved.

The dice at this point are new skins and fixing this issue is a technical issue. They require different people with different skillsets.

Nevertheless I really want to see this fixed as well. Tasha's been released for a while now but so has Xanathar's with the Divine Soul subclass. Divine Soul may not have as many extra spells, it still has one which it can replace.

posted a message on Spellbook carriage questions

Keep in mind that adventurers won't get laughed at for a backpack, since they will likely need it for supplies and such.

That being said, my sorcerer loves books and has one clipped on her belt. She also dislikes backpacks since she has wings (aasimar with flightless wings) and often wears a cloak that covers her arms. She instead uses a shoulder bag for the books she can't keep on her belt. She can keep light supplies in there as well for all the travels.

My backup has a pirate/sailor background and uses maps as a spellbook. Think of maps of the sea, groups of islands or old treasure maps. These are rolled up, strapped together and put on her back along her shortsword. She has a few more pouches on her belt and in her coat voor other stuff but might get a shoulder bag as well

Both of these have a strength of 8. I know the first was a sorcerer, but change one book to a spellbook and you have a wizard :P

posted a message on Favorite re-flavouring for spellbooks?

One thing I am working on for my backup/next character is basically a bunch of wrapped up papers used for maps etc. on the sea.

I am thinking of a pirate/sailor background with the role of a captain/navigator. Getting spellbooks on the sea is a challenge so just started doodling on the back of maps. Think of inacurate maps of the sea, maps of a group of islands and ofcourse old treasure maps. Heck write on top of the drawings as well if you run out of space.

Basically a whole bunch of those, tied together and hanging over the shoulder. This also allows the writing of spells to be super chaotic, just imagine sitting down for a ritual spell: "Okay, so where was this spell again. Ah yes here it is, oh it is only part of it. Which scroll has the second half again?".

posted a message on Character level bug

Some of my characters (not all of them) show the incorrect level when opening the character sheet in the app.

EDIT: removed one of the bugged characters since that was user error, the other I think is not.

In the screenshot below when I open the character Luisa of house Calabra, then the character level is different than the actual level.

    Character list

It shows her on her character sheet as level 3 while she is level 4 and I also notice that her Ability Score Increase isn't visible in the app (probably because the app thinks she is not yet level 4).

When I click on edit characater on website I then do see the correct information so it is only in the app itself. Below is her in app character sheet

    Luisa

Luisa Planning is a copy of Luisa (as in made a Copy online) and then added an extra level. Luisa Planning is level 5 in the app.
