For those wondering what this might be, its part of an out of character/in character thing I'm doing to illustrate some different ways of playing/portraying Necromancers, the first to parts are linked below.
The Doctors are wizards who studies necromancy, not to create undead, but to create life. Their ultimate goal is to create a Flesh Golem or similar construct, using spells such as Animate Dead and Create Homunculus along the way to hone their art. The two most well known examples of this type of Necromancer are Dr Frankenstein and Baron Frankenfurter. This type of Necromancer is dedicated to the point of obsession and acknowledges the laws that normal people live by but ignores them as outdated and views anyone who does not see their way as narrow minded.
Background wise, these types of necromancers come from all backgrounds but are predominantly disposed to being failed sages. They are usually willing to travel far and wide sniffing out any tit bit of information or ancient knowledge to further their goals. It would also be likely that they would test out any new spells or experiments on the local wildlife first to assess the results and keep fastidious diaries of the outcomes. Alignments also vary but most of their experimentation and reasoning would be considered evil by normal folk although the Doctors are first to point out that all medicine went through similar eras where it was thought of as taboo or against the morality of the day.
Doctors are almost exclusively dedicated to Arcana and Medicine and how magical energies interact with living or dead matter and some also pick up a knowledge of Nature and how various plant and animal based toxins can paralyze muscles and various flora can be used in various medicinal ways. They also tend to pick up a skill with Alchemical apparatus to make their own embalming fluids and such.
Spells, aside from the aforementioned Animate Dead and Create Homunculus, they all seem to gravitate to Find Familiar and (DM permitting) have a Crawling Claw as a familiar until such time that they learn the Create Homunculus spell. They would also have spells that demonstrate their mastery over the energies that animate life such as Life Transference, Enervation, Vampiric Touch and use spells such as Polymorph and Hold Person/Monster to demonstrate how life is nothing and can be impeded and changed at a whim. For the Doctor, magic is merely a tool to aid in experimentation and further their understanding of life and the material forms present in the world.
Doctors strives to understand how life works and how magical energies interact and animate the living and the dead and pursue any knowledge that aids in their goal of creating life. However, few multiclass into divine spell casters as most gods would not permit the research they are doing.
Doctors are usually quite easy to spot, they have plenty of medicine kits and empty vials to collect sample of blood and store random pieces of flesh and bone. They tend to carry several sets of clothing that are of a very sensible style and easily replaceable as they usually end covered in blood and gore during one of their "experiments". They will likely be on the look out for any locations where a Manual of Golems may be found and their own diary of experiments will often be as large as their spell book with notes and observations.
