For those wondering what this might be, its part of an out of character/in character thing I'm doing to illustrate some different ways of playing/portraying Necromancers, the first few parts are linked below.
The Necropolitans are people who has been brought back to life through Necromantic magic whilst in, or near a portal to, the Shadowfell. They renounce all forms of life and believe they are Undead through and through, Denizens of the Shadowfell do not regard Necropolitans as Undead until they have undergone a special ritual called "Crucimigration" and become Tomb Born (see homebrew Feat: https://www.dndbeyond.com/feats/190797-tomb-born). Most Necropolitans dwell in then Shadowfell, only venturing forth when needed and often trying to get back to the Shadowfell at the earliest opportunity. Necropolitans are secretive by nature due to the inherent competition that drives the group.
The Necropolitans come from mainly scholarly backgrounds and are quite pragmatic in outlook but they count all backgrounds in their number, most become overly aristocratic in their dealing with others and are often mistaken for members of the nobility. Many are the travellers that end up in the Shadowfell. Necropolitans maintain a certain aloofness in their dealing with others and tend to pursue whatever ambitions they had in life.
Necropolitans strive to attain excellence in what ever field of study suits them but many are scholars of History, Medicine or Arcana.
Spell Wise, they use what ever spells will most aid them in accomplishing their goals. Most will have a wide variety of spells but favour ones that are multi-purpose (such as Chromatic Orb) or that have long duration's (such as Leomund's Tiny Hut and Mage Armour). Necropolitans tend to be masterful planners and strategists.
The Necropolitans pursue whatever skills and abilities will further their goals, those that have the Tomb Born feat are happy to take a long view of things though and may opt to just "out live" their rivals rather than attempt to compete with them. A few may adopt the worship of Gods and take up the domains of Death or the Grave.
Equipment wise, Necropolitans dress in a manner they found comfortable or acceptable before they traveled to the Shadowfell. The tend to keep adventuring garb to only what is practical and absolutely required, leaving more complex logistical problems to the less developed minds and heavier equipment to any undead servitors they have animated.
